Hi I joined a while ago just as the site went down so never posted. i bought a 02 Mille R with some minor fairing damage. My intention was to get some more experience on my zzr600 through the winter while I tinker with the Mille. Unfortunately the Zeds engine has thrown a wobbly so I decided to get the Mille on the road. Erm steep learning curve. First time out it was raining and I stalled going into 2nd gear. The back wheel locked up and I was going down the road speedway style until I pulled the clutch in. Hmm so thats engine braking. God knows how I didn`t drop it. Thought I had made a huge mistake and was ready to sell her. :(Next day it was dry so I tried again and after an hour or so i started to get used to her. Then I opened the taps on the dual crriageway. Suddenly it all makes sense. Falling in love with the old girl now. :D
Went to the filling station, put the side stand down and the bike would not stay upright. The forecourt has a slight incline. So I had to go back onto the road and come in via the exit to get enough lean to make it stand. A problem most Mille/Falco/Tuono owners have encountered. I saw a few posts suggesting a GSXR sidestand as an alternative to the practical joke that was installed by Aprilia. But this still needed to be cut and welded so I decided to modify the original one. All I did was to cut a `V` near the weld at the top with a disc cutter. I then bent it until the gap was closed and got a mate to weld it back up. Simples. I have yet to test it on said forecourt but I have every confidence.:D

Hi did you cut the inside of the stand to make the bike stand up more?
As the problem is they lean too far over and I have been told a good gust will tip them over
A fire blade stand from 04-07 I think it is will fit but needs 10 mm cutting off it or on eBay a guy called bubseywoo sells a good quality replacement you have to wait about 4-5 weeks but they are what most put on

No I cut the outside and bent it away from the bike to make it lean over more. As standard it is too upright because the foot of the stand is too close to the centre line of the bike. a good gust of wind can send it over the stand to the left or away from it to the right. Not saying it is the best solution but it is cheap and easy.

I think a lot of it has to do with suspension settings, ride height and tyre profile.

I have a Bubseywoo stand which is 100% better than the bendy, narrow track parts bin excuse that Aprilia fitted, however since playing with the suspension and then going to a 190/55 rear tyre I'm finding that the bike now leans over just a little bit further than before.

I reckon that the ideal solution is to start with a mounting plate based on the American version and fab a longer leg that projects at a shallower angle.

Failing that one of the gixxer or 'blade stand mods may fit without any shortening if the angle were changed.

Alright Ian
What made you go for the 55 profile just changing my Tyres was asked if I wanted the 55 profile but stuck with the 180

Because I could really;)

I had the standard 190/50 fitted before and liked it so I thought I'd try the latest generation profile that combined the fast rolling 55 section with the extra rubber on the ground you get with a 190.

I also changed the gearing by dropping another tooth at the front (down to 15 now) so I reckon that the extra 5% height (rolling radius) of this tyre offset the change by about 1/2 a tooth so it's about right for me.

I have to say I'm loving the result. you have the best of all worlds and these tyres rock

I'm now a Dunlop convert,as long as they give me reasonable life (and they have outlasted any of their modern competitors in independent tests by a fantastic margin) then I'm one happy bunny,I've already proved they are s**t hot in the wet including standing water.
