The side stand switch looked corroded so I temporarily cut the wires and 'pigtailed' them together. The side stand light on the dash is out and the bike starts. I looked at the switch and the corrosion appeared to be on one of the soldered connections. So I cleaned it up and resoldered the cable in. When I put the switch back on the light on the dash goes OUT when the stand is DOWN, and ON when the STAND is up.
Help?

You haven't engaged the little peg on the back of the switch with its mating hole on the stand . . .

That's the thing, Ive put the peg in the hole, rotated it about 5 or 6 times and been careful to locate the peg. I must be doing something stupid.

Wouldn't matter - the circuit is not polarity sensitive. When the sidestand is down, the circuit is broken - when up, the circuit is made. Ian - this has got to be easy - have you tried testing the switch 'manually' before re-installing it with the sidestand leg?

Not at the bike at the mo and thanks for thinkng about this. As you say, I must be missing something dead obvious.

Just a thought; but if the stand DOWN, wouldn't the obvious choice be for the circuit to be 'made' ? Your indicating that stand down = broken (open) circuit/switch.

If you google , you'll find loads of sidestand switch problems - and some solutions! It follows that if a 'fix' for a faulty switch is to bridge the (two) wires, then the switch must be 'made' in the 'stand up' position. I imagine the ECU looks at the state of the switch then either powers the warning light, or not.
