I just posted on another thread recently telling another member to 'stick with it' when he had starting problems. 'New plugs and battery mate and it will be ok'........I should have kept my mouth shut.

New chain and sprockets fitted this morning and then out for a ride, the sun is shinning and world is a great place. stop have a drink, rain comes pissing down. No problem I thought start the bike and get home asap.

started it up as usual. Fast idle on no throttle. Starts ok. Now the problems start. In my haste I drove off with the bike 50% fast idle, shouldn't be a problem? Got to the traffic lights 300 yards down the road knocked the idle off, bike cuts out and wont start again after trying every method possible.

Got it home in my dads van and whipped out the plugs. They were wet, dried them off put them back in and it started first time..... arghhhhhh!!!

I accept partial blame for this incident because I didnt allow it to warm up properly and then probably gave it too much juice to re-start.

I have never had a bike that is so tempramental (RGV250 apart)

Are all mille's *******s at times? From hot or cold it starts fine, anything in between seems to be a lottery. Surely a modern bike cannot be this awkward

Has anyone suffered the same issues? The bike is running fine once its going but could it have a fueling problem? Can an aprilla dealer sort this problem if it exists. I've read somewhere that the throttle bodies may need balancing?

Love the bike, hate the thought of stopping and starting it which is pissing me right off.

So frustrating............................ ******* thing.

If it had been started i would not use the fast idle to start it, sounds like you probably flooded it

What they all said paul , just dont use the fast idle once its been ridden and its warm :thumbup

What he said what he said what he said what he said :thumbup

You'll look back on these times with fond memories Paul...enjoy them while you can :biggrin

I agree and normally would just start it with out fast idle but I was in a bit of a grey area where the bike had been stood for a couple of hours and the dash said cold. Being in this position before and starting without fast idle it will start but no tick over.

It would seem that the best method is to let it warm fully to temprature before moving.

I also agree that it was flooded but why the **** is it so sensative to flooding!!!!

Like I said no other bike I have owned was like this and I've had twins, fours and triple's.

I washed it this morning and took it for a spin, no problems!

To be honest, i've never had a problem starting any of my 3 Milles that i've owned, in fact, touch wood, the only problem i've ever had in 30,000 miles is a blown headlamp bulb! If there is no temp reading showing on the dash then use fast idle, if it shows a reading then don't. It's always worked for me. Never ever touch the throttle on starting and keep the battery on an optimate.

The way to start the bike if it does get flooded is to close the fast idle lever, open the throttle fully and hold the starter button. If it doesn't catch after the 3 or 4 seconds, stop and repeat proceedure. When it does catch be prepared to close the throttle immediately though

So is it love again...:inlove (for now)....:biggrin

The the love hate relationship seems set to continue. I just can't give up on such a good bike.

Legs - tried the full throttle trick, didn't work on this ocasion. Interesting you say never touch the throttle, from warm I have to use a little throttle. Does my bike need setting up?

What is your tick over rpm set at maybe its too low :dunno

paul please forgive me for butting in on your thread but im sure a good set up and a fresh set of plugs will sort your bike and restore your confidence!
overworked plugs i reckon! once theyve been contaminated i would always change for a fresh set ! Ive had one customer this week just gone with very similar symptoms, we worked out between us that he was leaving his bike (VFR400) on choke for too long!, he started his bike then put all his gear on !
well tht wont matter on a mille as the chokre lever is only a fast idle so no worries!
please let me know how you get on or pop down for a trip out one day and get your bike set up??? you'll always be welcome!
Cheers

Do you own a bike shop Fusebox and do suspension set-ups etc :dunno I was thinking of getting mine checked out/set up for my weight etc. I've read up various threads how to do it but I'm not that confident on doing it myself properly. I'd much rather pay someone who knows what they're doing :roll

About 2hours for me and a bit less for you. Might even come down with you if you fancy it :thumbup

Thanks fusebox, My bike has new plugs, battery and is on optimate 24/7. Tried to start it tonight from cold on fast idle and it wont have it. I've had loads of problems with it and repaced everything I can think of. My patience is running really thin.

I enjoy a bit of spannering but when the rare oportunity arises for me to ride it I want it to start (not asking too much am I?)

next step is possibly new coils or put it on ebay.

if you enjoy a little spannering then its all good dude!
