Hi guys,

I'm hoping some of you could have a look at the video. This is BEFORE i have fitted new pads! I've greased the pistons, all working ok..........any suggestions?? Or should i just send them back to ABE to have a look at????

Really silly thought are wheel bearings okay ?, axle not done up too tight, spacers around the right way ?

Does it spin up OK if the calipers are removed?

If no then it has to be bearings or the wheel has been fitted incorrectly.

If yes then is it a case of:

1. Pistons not moving back in to the casing due to crap or corrosion.
2. The pistons move back ok but the pads are failing to move back. (I found that my pads had gone a little rusty and the rust on the edges caused them not to slide in the carrier)
3. The master cylinder is not allowing the pressure to be released from the line when in the off position.

Let us know what you find mate, most likely rust on the pads mate.

Slacken off the spindle and the pinch bolts at the bottom of the forks.
Spin the wheel then.
What's it like?

Same as above mate take the calipers off and then try have you only had problem since you put the disks on are they sat on the wheel tidy mate:thumbup

Undo the pinch bolts on the bottom and the axle nut and sqeeze the front brake in order to bed the pads on to the discs then do the pinch /axle bolts up.

If that doesnt work then bollox to the discs and get your money back from ABE.

Fooking hell Tim, you been taking those technical pills again? LOL

Unusual for you not to be talking bollocks on a thread like this.

Not bad for me eh although i have sunk 2 bottles of the finest Bordeaux tonight :eatcorn

Thanks for all the thoughts guys....

Firstly, yes, when the calipers are removed the wheel spins continuously, no bearing issues. Secondly, the axle nut has been torqued to the correct setting so won't be the axle nut!! Thirdly, the discs are sitting flush with the hub as i removed them twice and cleaned both surfaces thoroughly!!!, Alan mate, as for the calipers, i have cleaned them and re greased the pistons, which seem to be moving freely enough (however, i've not had alot of experience with piston problems, how "freely" should they move??). Mick mate, i had zero issues with binding before removal of the discs and nothing of any note has happened to make them off square?? Tim mate, i'll maybe try that tomorrow bud, can you just tell me though, when i've loosened the axle and pinch bolts, pulled the brake lever, do i then cable tie or similar the lever "on" until the bolts are re tightened??

If that fails, i'll be sending them back to the guys at ABE, spoke to Nick who says no problem.

Thanks again guys............:thumbup

I personally don't think there is that much of an issue there Andi, both of my bikes do that when trying to spin the wheel, it looks to me like the pads are lightly touching the disc causing that, when on the move it is not an issue, just my thoughts as you seem to have covered most if not all other possible causes, if i went out and took a vid of mine it does exactly the same.

Cheers Iain mate, i've got it in my head now that it's ****** and rode it home like a f*cking pansy waiting for the ******* to seize!! I've got a new set of pads so i'll stick them in tomorrow after trying Tim's suggestion.

Thanks buddy.....feel a bit better now............:thumbup

Andi, sounds like you've covered off all areas mate.

When you ride it (not like a pansy) do the brakes feel good?

Does it pulsate or pull at all?

If not, then as long as they aren't over heating whilst riding no worries.

When the pads get glazed slightly then they should slide asiere

Just a thought , if the discs are new I hope that you changed the pads at the same time if not uneven wear might occur.

ps feck me im on form tonight

Yeah Alan....they feel fine, think i'm just over worrying a bit! Tim bud, not new discs, just new bobbins. Will try Tim's (the on form man!!) tip tomorrow wand also fit the new pads..........:thumbup

This isn't meant to sound like I'm taking the piss but is the wheel in the right way round?

Yeah bud it's the right way round as, as i was informed, it will only fit correctly one way!!:thumbup

my bike is up on stands at the minute while i revamp it and i have noticed the same problem. I have checked the discs are floating correctly but it still comes to a stop. The thing is i have put 1500 miles on it since i brought it and this is the first time i have checked it! :dunno
