rsv's slow?

no no weight means nothing mille matt .... the reason aprilia divised a silver section was for amatuer riders who dont have a clue . have they told you that because it has no extra paint that it cant handle the speed and because it cant do that its slowest :biggrin :eatcorn

yes that is good :thumbup i think you find rsvr47 will change his gearing now (using 15/42 to get a 176 at the moment ) i think you will find my dad will change the sprokets for him watch this space :lol:eatcorn

my 02 runs 16/44 and wont go past 166, not bad for a 5 year old mille tho!
and since i'm niot that bothered about top speed, more about roll on I'm gonna try 15/44 next

I was thinking similar. 179 seems a little fast on the road and even though Jap IL4s might have the legs top end when does it ever matter on a normal ride out? I am just trying to find what I would like most out of my gearing. I dont want the revs too high when I am cruising on the motorway and I dont want to have to go through the gears too much so that I am loosing out by changing soo much. Think I am running 15/40 but do have a 42 rear sprocket too.

i agree, on my last motogp jaunt to mugello, me and the other mille definately had the legs on the others...well up to about 160mph anyway ..before they flew past taking our decals with them. But for roll on torque we deffo had all the fun!. I think any mille would benefit from the one down on the front and two up on the rear. Which I have at the mo.But I will deffo go two down on front and up two at the back very shortly. I expect the top end to go from 166 to about 160 which is deffo still plenty for me, its the torque I'm after!!

Mark, checked the rpm/speed for ya at the weekend

15/43 gearing

80mph = 5000rpm
87mph =5500rpm

in top gear

I'm new to the twin thing, not had mine long, and have hit 181. It was :scared Its an early 04 RSVR with Oz wheels in silver :confused

Checked and its standard gearing so it must have some engine mods. :dunno Might have to get the fairings off!

I would reckon that is unlikely, if the previous owner had standard gearing on he would not have done any mods IMO, also that is why it is doing that speed, because the gearing is tall, if you want to keep a high top speed keep the gearing you have, if you want acceleration then gear it down:thumbup

169 on 15-42 for me.

Works around town, pulls like a total bast@rd out of corners and more than high enough top speed.....

if you ask me, stick with what you know, an what suits your own riding style. If you do alot of town riding, then maybe gear it down a touch, but if not, i would leave it as is

Cheers for that. I will have a look next time I am to see. I find that it cruises at just above 100 at about 6000 revs but I will have a propper look and get back with the results
