when i bought my bike the bloke i bought it off lost the cowl. He said he will replace it but doesnt look like hes going too.
so currently on my bike is a big hole where the seat cowl should be if i order this:http://www.speedycom.co.uk/shop/product.php?productid=17586&cat=391&page=3
Will i need to get anything else to fit it? base or similar etc?
The bike is on a 03 plate but the plastics are from an 98-00 RSVR dunno the story behind that

depends what it comes with Matey, ask them if it comes with the base - at that price you'd hope so

the standard ones are 2 piece - the cowl top and the base screw together.

Deacs :thumbup

I did order one of those orginaly but it doesn't fit :-(. so if anybody needs a seat cowl from an 02 rsv I got a good one. Just ordered the one that redratbike showed me so it's looking good. :)

Hi Vincent,

Just sent you a pm. I'm bringing my tack bike back to a dual life and I need of seat cowl.

You really want the 2000 R seat cowl to match the rest of your plastics...

If the seller was telling the truth and it blew off in transit might be worth checking the seat locking mechanism works

had a little look yesterday and I couldn't even see a key slot on the back end of the bike. do you think the seller was talking ***** about it flying off. makes me wonder what sort of history my bike has had

The key slot should be located on the left hand side of the bike nr the rear footpeg if it isnt there then there would still be a hole in the plastic where the key slot goes. If you post a picture looking at the void where the seat cowl goes one of us can tell u if the lock is there.

I cant see it flying off unless the lock itself was broken and not holding it in position, or perhaps it stuck in the open position and needs a bit of oil... Who knows....

The PO might have dumped the bike hence replacing the fairings for a different models or he might just prefer those colours the only way to tell would be to remove them and check for damage to the rads etc

Lets not forget you got it for a great price so if you need to spend the odd bit of money on it isnt really a big deal

they do have a tendancy to fly off if the rider (i.e. me) doesnt look properly when slotting the cowl back on...done it a couble of times..DOH!!!!

il take a photo tomorrow and upload it. i did get the bike at a good price so its not major issue cant see any obvious damage on swing arm or frame etc so dont think its been down the road. all the little niggles seem to go away when i start her up and go for a ride

so my seat cowl arrived today and its the right one :) but there isn't a seat lock mechanism or anything so any ideas how im going to fix to bike.
i bought a bolt set today too because the entire rear end plastics were only attached by one bolt and one very loose one lol
here are some pics

**** dude you are missing quite a few bits and pieces there !

Frame to plastics spacers (the bits in your photo)
The entire seat lock mechanism
and possibly the rear plastics support bracket (a photo without the plastics on would help identify the missing bits properly)

Have a look here.

Sub frame has been cut hasn't it? Sorry don't remember how to paste images. To me looks like it was half way through a track/custom seat unit conversion?

Can't remember if the R&R is supposed to be forward or back of where your frame ends either.

Hope I'm wrong mate.

Love the cable ties :-s

You have the two up subframe so at least u dont have to worry about changing that too to take the missus out or whoever...

But like kiwi says there is quite a bit missing, i think from previous pics your undertray was missing two.... Wonder what the hell the guy was thinking when he started replacing the plastics for an earlier models.

The seat lock mechanism actually goes a bit further back than your picture shows more near the taillight.

Definately was bullshitting about it blowing off then....
