Hello everyone,

last tuesday i took out the Mille for my first real testdrive.
In a way it was kind of a disappointment, although she runs well en handles perfectly, when the revs go up she struggles to accelerate.
To get to a 100mph is a huge struggle and takes an enormous amount of time, this can't be right.. :confused

I've recently fitted the open intake from the older model and cleaned the K&N air filter, there is also a Aprilia racing can installed and it's all regulated by a RP58 chip.
The only thing i really noticed is that the oil breather pipe was loose, but can this be the source of this problem?

I have seen some other people on this forum who had this but i could never find an actual answer.

If anyone got the solution for me, please let me know! :)

shouldn't struggle but remember these are not high revving bikes 10k at most but peak power is delivered lower in the rev range.

whats the gearing?

when was it last set up...i.e. throttle body sync and co levels checked

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I am aware that it's not a high revving bike, but from 4ktpm upwards the tachometer just crawls through the revs, it litteraly takes about 30 seconds to get from 5ktpm to 6ktpm :uhoh
Also the acceleration in lower revs is not that great, certainly not what i remember from my testdrive 3 years back..

Last maintenance was about 2 years ago i think, it was set up on a dyno where it measured 130,8 bhp/rw.
This saturday is an Aprilia club day nearby so i'm going there anyway and discuss this problem when it still plays, but i figured maybe someone has an answer before that :)

PS: gearing is 16/43

could it be running on only 1 cylinder?
Have you had it laid up for 2 years?
Is it new fuel in the tank or 2 yr old fuel?
If its been laid up for 2 years the minimum I would do is a service! Oil, oil filter, air filter clean and oil, spark plugs, valve clearance check (mileage?), TB sync and CO check and adjust, new fork oil, new brake fluid, chain clean check lube and adjust, clean and check brake pads and callipers.

Id look round it kick the tyres look for loose bits change the fuel stick some redex or stronger in and give it an Italian tune up but then I know nothing about this sort of stuff so then Id get the plugs checked and changed

nope it's running on both cylinders, it actually runs quite nice except for the lack of power.
It has been seldomly used by the previous owner for the last 2 years, i bought it from him last january.
I have done the following:
- new fuel
- K&N air filter cleaned en freshly oiled
- Oil refreshment
- Oil filter replacement
- Spark plugs check up
- Serviced the fork (oil + gaskets)
- Brake fluid refreshed
- Drivetrain inspected and brakes checked up
- Serviced exhaust with new filling

shouldn't be oil breather pipe from the airbox mine has been like that for years ... witring mod as you have air mods and aftermarket exhausts is the 58 the standard chip running on standard map?

hmm too bad :p the chip shouldn't be running on standard mapping, it has been adjusted to the air inlet mod, K&N filter and open exhaust by an offical Aprilia dealer.
Actually it's the same dealer as the one i'm going to next saturday, so if i can't find out before that i'll probably park it in the shop immediately for them to sort it out.
I can't get my head around it, especially because it runs very nice and smooth.. no hickups whatsoever.

btw, on the right hand side of the airbox (when you're sitting on the bike) there is another exit but this one hasn't got a hose/pipe attached to it, it's beside the tube where you can let the collected oil out. What is this for?

Have you got someone close by that you could swap out the ECU with?

Fuel filter blocked in tank so not delivering fuel at the rate needed?

Fuel pump playing up? Pressure regulator on side of throttle bodies gone tilt?

:dowhat

Throttle response thingy

also if your bike is a us one does it have that crappy extra canister under the seat think its like a bike version of a cat so can be ripped out AF1have a guide I think.

Not directly, but saturday there will be a lot of aprilia's so i could try then.

I suppose i could let the dealer take a look at the fuel filter and pump if they have the time, i've looked in the manual how to disassemble the fuel pump/filter and it looks like a lot of trouble :roll ... Thanks for the tips!

@flatlander: no it's an original dutch bike so no us crap on it :biggrin

Sorry was sure I saw Pennsylvania and as I used to live there ... And not the one in Exeter :) I believe the fuel filter is the same as a Nissan micra well it is in the falco which can be a lot cheaper

Probably not the reason but you haven't over oiled the air filter by any chance?

No, it ran like this when i got it and it still runs like this after i cleaned and oiled the filter..

Anyone can tell me what that extra exit from the airbox (on the rightside in the front) does?

going to check some last things tonight and maybe make a testdrive, tomorrow i'm off to the aprilia day here where there will be a dyno so hopefully it will all be over by tomorrow :)

I stripped and cleaned my air box recently and the spigot type thing of which you speak is just blanked off in the inside. I assume this airbox would be used on various models and maybe has a purpose on a different machine.

have you checked you are getting full throttle?
look at the butterflies in the throttle bodies to make sure they are opening fully.
did you also check the tps?
