Restricted??

Had my first proper ride on the RSV today, and she seems decidely slow on top end. Acceleration seems fine, although not the wheelie beast I had been informed of. Basically she will get upto 135 fine, struggles upto 145 then wont go any further. She revs all the way so its not that, and I didnt see anything in the airbox, altough will be fitting the hooked airbox tomorrow. There is also a blue/green wire cut goin into the ECU. Is there any other restrictions on the bike?
Other than that fantastic ride, love the front brake!
Cheers lads

I have seen 168 on the clock on mine and the front wheel in the air in the first 3 gears on power not a fan of clutch ups so dont know about 4th you have a problem some where mate

Hi mate, not sure really. I do agree with the wheelie thing though! Was a great day for a ride today

Are you running a standard exhaust ??................I am glad you found a PRIVATE road to test on though, they are hard to find :)

i also tested on a priveate road and have seen 168:thumbup
as for the wheelies, try being a lil more heavyhanded with her:eek:
and if you still cant get her up, then waste away the hours practising stoppies:doug:pirate

Oh, er yes, I was on a disused airfield of course, I mean no one would do that sort of silly speed on HM Highways. Hmm, certainly sounds like she has a problem. It's got a Fuel exhaust on it, and its got a 16 tooth front sprocket, and I think is either a 44 or 45 on the back, Doesnt wheelie after 2nd though, and you have to coax it to do it in that. Damn, have had nothing but probs with this bike. Gotta ride it to Germany on Aug too, and only got 100miles to the tank. Maybe chopping it in before that at this rate.

Next I would check to see what sort of chip is fitted and what airfilter is in there.
After that it may need the throttle bodies balancing (Co2 can get out of whack and hurt performance)

From Gearing Commander
17/42 = 176mph
16/44 = 158mph

It's a standard filter, although will be putting the hooked one in when it stops bloody raining. What should the standard chip look like, and where is it? I assume its in the metal case under the seat? Cheers. Do you reckon I should try putting the standard exhaust back on incase its that?

check wheelie's post about 30 down from yours:pirate

Right, opened up the ECU box. Ont he outside the sticker says it is for an RSV2001/RP58 chip. My RSV is the 03 model, could this be whats causing the problem or is this still the correct chip? I'm assumimg that the previous owner blew the ECU and replaced it with the 01 ECU??

Hi Tinman

I dont have much experience of milles yet, had mine for 5 days. . . havent had a chance to reasly wind her up yet, but yours does seem a bit slow. I have a bike shop in Leamington Spa and have just installed a dyno. Ran mine this week and observed some issues, way too rich on hihger revs. if you wish to do some comparrisons I can give you a keen price on a dyno run with lambda sensor (ie fuel mixture), and we can compare to mine. Dr Rossi seems to be the man on chips. What chip do you have, Mine has 1 RP58, which although is a standard Aprilia part, I dont think it was the original. Send me a pm if you are interested in a dyno run.

tinman hi, have you found the source of your power restriction yet? the reason i ask is i have experienced the exact same problem. its as if ,say you had one of those new gsxr,s and opted for the soft ignition map for wet weather. it goes ok but is,nt the animal i have experienced now andthen. it,s an effort to get it to wheelie, and no way could it power wheelie. iv,e got a pc3 arrow ti; barnett clutch and at moment 15-42 gearing although 44 rear supersprox on way. you recon it could be an ecu prob? my wire has been cut but it aint any better than my previous 600.

Thanks for the offer Mr Damage but I'm completely skint right now but may call you on that offer at a later date!
Yeah Robbie, sounds exactly like my problem. My GSXR 600k2 that I had was definatley quicker top end, and acceleration I dont notice much, if any difference. I was skinned by a gsxr1000 the other day on a long straight, now I know a v-twin aint gonna keep with a 4, but the difference was laughable. Just gonna have to grin and bear it for a while. If you find out Robbie gimme a shout! Cheers
