My bike only starts in neutral. It does not start in gear with the clutch in. Is this normal for an 08? Owners manual says it should start in gear with the clutch in. This could pose a problem if it dies and i need to restart while moving. I dont want to be flopping around trying to find neutral.

If your moving and the engine is not making power the rear wheel will be turning the engine over, so the starter will not provide any additional help.

I dont own a 08 model, but if it is supposed to start in gear then there should be a switch to detect the clutch is pulled, may be worth checking the connection to it

There's a small switch on the lever and it has a small useless strip of metal resting on it. However, nothing on the lever actuats it. From what I've read here, the switch is supposed to be extended in order to start in gear. It is extended. I did notice that with the bike in gear and the clutch pulled in, if I hit the start switch I hear the fuel pump cycle but I don't get any turn over from the starter.
