Ok Guys

I have been bugging the good man Sprocker about the homemade airbox mod, till I was steered towards the Renegade system.

My basic understanding is this

1. The EVO system uses only the bottom half of the airbox sealed against the tank to increase air capacity and help the RAM air effect.

2. The RENEGADE system gets rid of the entire airbox and uses a plate (carbon's nice but not critical) to hide (not seal) most of the bottom engine bay away. This will lose some of the "Sealed RAM air effect" of the EVO, but surely would gain more air capacity. It loses the filter at the front and just filters over the stacks, job DONE!!

The Renegade seems an easier home job, I work for a laser cutter so the plate is no problems, just a filter for the stacks and presto, finished!!:dunno

At least thats what I think, would love some feedback and opinions to help steer me in right direction.

Cheers Pete :thumbup

OZ.....i have the Renegadr set up and it added power and torque on the dyno aswell as sounding f*ckin awesome....can't rate it highly enough!!

Mine's the real deal buddy but looking at it there's not a great deal to it!! Mybe worth a go yourself!!:thumbup

Am with Andi, louder than loud and noticed a difference in pull when i fitted it. Only ever tried the renegade system but its awesome

Hey Guys

Many thanks, will try the Renegade as it just seems an easier mod, with by all accounts great results!!

Cheers Pete

Is there a 'How to' on this or is it a case of having to buy a new air box?? I'm very interested in doing this to my 05 mille, Thats if it can be done to my bike? Does anyone out there know??

Cheers peeps! :)

I have the renegade and it does sound awesome, but I can't imagine it is better than the Evoluzione. They were both developed by people that know what they are doing.

I have the evo box which is great- prolly not much difference to the renegade as has been said.
Ck

going to make my own as been given the template but just wondering where to buy the renegade set from? or even the evo. haven't seen then about for sale?

just wonderring

The best way is to do some reading up on what the airbox actually does :) the renegade kit is a 'open airbox' if you go back in time all motorcycles used open air filter systems there was several performance reasons why they moved to sealed airboxes with intake in front of rad -air temp/low presure at sides of motorcycle(partial vacuum) at speed + the old ram air effect, in the end it depends on what you want to achieve :)

IMO the sealed one is the best option, it is sealed and still giving you a ram air effect which increases as you up your speed, the air from the front of the bike is cooler and denser than warm air drawn from around the engine, also for me anyway the renegade type is too noisy, i prefer to hear the exhaust note rather than the induction.

IMO this is the best bit of kit on the market bar none

for the early models

and post 04 models

this is what is on both my post 04 bikes and both give good results, Richard at Frank Wrathall Developments said he has not seen such a good airbox kit, my track bike produced this on the dyno with a Homer Ewe kit fitted, my recommendation is to go with a sealed kit:thumbup

Check out ebay mate, there are a few throtle body filters available on there if you already have the base.....you will also need a mini oil breather filter along with some fixing Dzus clips to hold the filters to the plates etc....have a word with Hooked, he is looking into this in a big way...he may be able to supply all the parts.

I've been pushing on with the filter plates ......

I've now got a mould shape spot on :thumbup

Ive also sourced the filters for both the throttle stacks and engine breather

I'm going to do three different plates so the cost will vary . So with that in mind Should fit all budgets 3 plates as follows:

1 ... carbon ...... cost £ TBA

2 ... prepreg glass (aircraft quality ) cost £ TBA

3 ... Fibreglass ( aircraft quality ) cost £ TBA

any of the three will be ok .... all will be aircraft Epoxy resin .... and stand heat well on aircraft engine cowlings. So There's no heat worries :biggrin

All three plates will be available as complete kits. And will inc all fixings quick release , brand new Piper cross stack filters and Mini K&N style engine breather filters.

Guys when im done approx 1-2 weeks max prices and pictures will be available. and i will put an add in the for sale section :eatcorn

Note these filter kits will do away with the airbox,as does the renegade this to is an open air box design.Yes more Power .Yes more torque, and a great induction noise. :doug

Im not sure about this Ram air idea.
It can work on Carbs, but injection?

I can remember Toby & Jules talking about it on the MotoGP. A stable amount of air was needed to maintain the optimum injection (fuel/air mixture). More air would mean a weaker mix.

My bike does not have a lambda sensor, so cannot re-map to suite.
