Hi guys,

I was wondering if you can help me out explaining what happened to my brake. I was just riding along noticing a decrease in power (which I now realize would have been the brakes biting without me using them) I accelerated through the power slump and a minute later the rear brake completely seized locking the wheel. It spewed out the piston rings as molten plastic, the brake fluid spluttered out of the bleed valve also. The brake pads are completely screwed and the brake disc needs replacing.

1 week after picking up my 05 RSV-R and this happens. Any idea what caused this?

Any help would be much appreciated

Sounds like the rear brake operating arm was not adjusted properly, there should be a few mm of slack otherwise it has the effect of riding along with the brake slightly on which heats up the brake fluid which in turn expands & applies the brakes more & more until they lock up

Thanks nikfubar, Is it quite straightforward to readjust? I Just ordered replacements for all the broken parts, the piston seals in the brembos came to £23!

Yup easy to adjust, look at the rod that connects the lever to the master cylinder, you will see adjuster nuts. There's a manual somewhere on this forum that goes through the adjustment procedure

Thanks an absolute ton. It happened just after I over took a load of cars which could have been deadly if it locked up during that
