Hello everyone.

Have a 2009 Factory after having "normal" 1000R for 2 years.

Been on this (and the old one) site for ages, but now need some help.

Planned a ride today after bike being laid up over winter. Started her up last night as normal, till fan cut in - all ok.

Been on optimate and start up about every 3 weeks.

Went for ride this morning with a mate and all ok. Filled up with petrol after about 10 miles and about 2 mins later got red triangle and oil can icon - I guess limp home mode activated as I could not go over 3000 revs but got home (eventually)! Oil level seems fine and it was definitely petrol!

Anyone got any ideas?

If I turn off, then restart, it`s ok for a few swecond/minutes, then reverts t the "limp home" mode.

Cheers,

Ian

Jee whizz joined in 2009 and only 1 post today. Whats wrong with you man ;)
Sorry no can help on the problem I've a Gen 1 meself.
They do say though that if you leave the bike over winter don't start and stop it unless you're going to go for a ride. Doesn't do the bike any good at all. Maybe leave it overnight and see if it happens in the morning.
Best of luck sorting it

Could be a duff oil pressure switch?

Are you getting any error codes?
I'm betting that you have the shortie oil filter?

If it persists, pull the magnetic plug, if there's swarf, prepare to sell the missus or kids into slavery for the funds you'll need to fix it.

**** me that sounds severe..

kids go fer nowt these days...................

Tell U summat now tifa. When Griff did the service on Gilos bike and he checked the oil filter they'd stuck a shorty filter in when it need a longy one in there. Griff said it was only kept on by suction alone. The way Gilo rides it could have come off and caused some serious damage. Luckily it didn't but what were the mechanics thinking who put that fecking thing in thinking. Oh we'll just whack any old thing in.

when i bought mine last year it had a shorty filter in a long housing, i only noticed when i dumped the oil, within 2 days of owning it, as you do.. no warning lights though.

hope it turns out ok fer yer Ian.

Thanks guys will have a look tomorrow - how do I find out if there is an error code? It does have shortie filter AND housing.

Cheers

Ian

Are you sure it has a shorty.
Mines an 09 as well but it has the Longy one.

Yea - when I first bought an oil filter, they gave me a long one and it would not fit - strange as my 07 T had a long one. Went to bike this morning and oil was to the top of the filler plug!. Drained out some oil down to min(cold) and all was well until exactly 10 miles again! Now same problem and oil level showing to max level.
Very strange

Take out the oil sensor and clean it, think it might have some sludge caked inside.

Use some Brake/Carb spray cleaner.

If it's not the oil sensor it could be the FW sensor. Basically you need to take the bike off its stand and wheel it backwards for about 50 feeet ... then rock it forwards a bit ... then back another 50 feet. Keep doing this until the alarm clears.

welly a thought yer wer aff ra booze???

Short filter, flows less oil, has non return valve built in. Works perfectly ok.

Long filter, flows more oil, but no valve. Oil warning common on startup once oil is warm.

Both filters (providing oe rotax) are ok, just different.

You've still got too much oil in. It should be reading between the 2 markers. I check mine after a run with engine still running and its always between the 2.

That's where inwas told it should be. Sounds like too much oil in there even its not the problem. Putting a lot of pressure on the engine i would have thought with too much oil.

Who put the oil in?
