questions about potential purchase

Hey all,

I'm considering buying an '02 RSV R. It has 22,000 miles and has some sun weathering, but for $4000 OTD, it's hard to resist. The reason I'm in the market for a new bike is that my '07 600RR got stolen.

I've been doing a lot of reading recently, but I wanted to get some opinions from you guys before jumping the gun.

1. What kind of problems can I expect, given the mileage? I'll definitely be changing all the fluids, and I know I should expect the fork seals to leak.

2. Is $4000 a good deal, or is it just me?

3. How is the reliability and ease of maintenance? I've been getting the impression that it's better than Duc's but not quite as good as the Japanese bikes.

4. What else should I know before I decide whether or not to buy the Aprilia?

Thanks for the help.

1. Depends what the previos owner has changed, pads, chain, other than that nothing.

2. Sounds good.

3. The engine is very reliable. The problem is with cheap electronic italian bikes have (all of them), so sometimes you get somekind of an error on the dash (called EFI). And your batery always has to be in good shape, so that the engine will start easily. Other than that no bigger problem, the small ones that you have can mostly be solved with the help of this forum.

4. You should know that rsv mille kicks *** :), and once you get used to it (quite diferent than a jap) you will love it even more.

I would add to this that if you just jump on it and go far a test ride you may not like the delivery of the power but for sure its worth "getting used to"

The build Quality is IMHO Excellent and its one of the few bikes that I have had that I look back at when I leave it parked up.
