problems with datatool alarm

I've got trouble with the datatool veto alarm/immob on my mille-basically the keyfob is knackered,it has what looks like corrosion behind the switch on the circuitboard that corresponds with the circle button when the fob is assembled.I was wondering if any of you have had to get a replacement and what the prices were.:confused

The other thing is that the alarm hasn't worked properly since i've had it as the triangle button still works ok and the battery also seems fine on the fob.you could press the keyfob and although the light is on when you press either button it takes ages to register on the bike and on closer inspection the way its fitted to the bike(cable ties) and the fact that its in a completely different place to my brothers (same alarm same bike)makes me think its not been fitted properly.

all the bikes i've had with alarms have been hassle in one way or another so have any of you had them taken off and is disconnecting it something you can do yourself?sorry for the long post but i'm stuck here with bits to fit and the need to ride and its just sitting there looking pretty :inloveand not doing anything!:dunnothanks guys

Had 3 bikes and all had probs with the alarms, ripped the data tool out on the last bike i had

Alarms  Satans sporn

Hate them hate them won't have one. Yukity Yuk Yuk yuk yuk Yuk :angry

An alarm is not a good deterrent and a sure fire way to leave you stranded at the most inopportune time. Get rid and buy a big f-off lock.

Just thought i'd say that I ripped the piece of crap out today and everything is lovely....Thanks again, this forum is a goldmine of information:thumbup

just keep the paperwork to say its installed or when its nicked or the insurance company wont pay out! cos they will check the bike(if its found) to see if its installed i know from experience.

alarms maybe not, but the immobiliser stops the scroat riding it off, yeah buy a big lock, how to carry, do you ride with it round your neck like mad max? Buy an optimate or similar and you never have starting problems unless your battery is shagged. Id go for alarm/immobiliser everytime for the insurance discount and you can spend the money saved on misc ***** to put on the bike, just my 2p so dont shoot me!

oh i must add it has to be the right system for the discount i had 2 different thatcham cat 1 alarms on my gixxer and the insurance was 300 cheaper with one of them.

It doesn't sound right mate and I doubt it's fitted correctly either by the sounds of it. Fobs also aren't too expensive, I think they're inside the £40 mark

I had a top of the range Datatool S4 C1 RED on my previous bike, a GSXR750k6, and it was rubbish! It kept going off for no reason all the time and in the end it spent a week with a datatool technician and they couldn't work it out and so they just fitted a completely new unit. However from that experience I don't think I'll fit an alarm on any other bikes I get, they just seem a waste of time to me as no one pays any attention to them and they're just so easy to get to and disable on a bike. Personally I think the only thing worth fitting of that type is a tracker. Also get a jumbo chain and ground anchor!

Now that i've taken it apart, and i know what to do it wouldn't take long at all for me to disable it again which is not particularly comforting knowing that there are scumbags out there that do it for a living though i can't speak for other makes of alarm immobs.my brothers is mounted securely under the seat hump whilst mine was cable tied onto the side of the subframe right where the vent is so when riding in wet weather(not if i can help it mind you!)it was exposed to the elements not to mention the dodgy electrical tape over the connections.I spose i could of had it sorted by datatool but i have a short temper when i suffer bike gremlins on a sunny day:fire
