Pull your new battery off the bike and charge overnight and try it tomorrow.

Can you get your battery load tested?

Sometimes Halfords will do them for you for a small fee.

You may have a duff battery.

but that would mean 3 x duff batteries as i tried a friends also.

the one that was on my bike was already a 14 and has been working fantastic last saturday last time the bike was out it did not cause any problem, like i say this noise coming from that rubber thing above is worrying me and dont know what it is.

If it is clicking from the relay then its that the solenoid pulling in is the click but it is not making connection accross if you want to verify you can short the terminals with a screw driver if starter engages then definately solenoid gone.
Go get a yam one plenty of links on site to find
Good luck:thumbup

mick is that what is in the picture above??

just swapped batteries back over to my old one and that thing in the pic no longer thumps/clicks when i try to start it....... new battery must not be fully charged as AMB said.

The bike is fully throwing over no problems, just does not seem to be igniting :( ok next guesses are?

Hi Chris, sounds just like my bike last year, i did as mick says above and it started so brought myself a yamaha solenoid. You could get one from granby motors near tesco junction 26 M1 if you don't have a bike shop near you.

Hey super Ninj cheers buddy, the funny thing been is the aprilia bits look different to anything i dealt with before.... so im lost in terms of where and which the solenoid is and all those things.....

help :( what do i ask for just a yamaha solenoid :S

No problem mate, the part in question is the circular part with the rubber cover has the large red wire going into it. i will look for the part number for you and they will not have a clue which one you require.

Yamaha starter relay (part # 4KD-81-940-00) yeah thats the right part number. Expensive from there though! think mine was under 20 quid.

try these guys http://www.granbymotors.co.uk/ i don't work there or anything lol just have a decent parts service. You may have a yamaha parts place nearer to you though.

looks like next thing is the yamaha solenoid, bike still wouldnt start even on new battery :(

Did you try shorting across the two solenoid terminals chris :dunno if it doesn't fire up I have a spare solenoid you can try before you go a buy a new one.

Also check if the terminals are tight.

If you want to try my spare pm me your addy and i'll post it :thumbup

how do you short across???

that would be great mate as spent 46quid on new battery yesterday and already pissed the misses off as the bike doesnt start anymore than it did with the old battery :laugh

terminals are tight as i took the solenoid off and cleaned all contacts to make sure full contact was there.

sprocker send me your num and i will call you you can listen to the bike trying to start and tell me what you think :laugh

ok tried it, just sparked and kicked over the bike.....didnt actually start though!!! :(

yes i did :laugh

OK, did it spin the bike over better than when you do it on the starter button?

Strange how it never started.

Your doing the correct start up procedure?

Full cold start - Ignition on - allow fuel pump to prime up - hit the starter button. - Bingo!!
