Problem Starting Bike

OK, did it spin the bike over better than when you do it on the starter button?

Strange how it never started.

Your doing the correct start up procedure?

Full cold start - Ignition on - allow fuel pump to prime up - hit the starter button. - Bingo!!

it did sound stronger when i did it yes. but the fireworks worth of sparks made me quit early :laugh

yup

ignition on - allow prime and efi to go off screen - i pull the clutch in aswell and then starter button.

Looks like it's down to the knackered solenoid then, a visit to your local Yam dealer is required then.

tomorrow thy will be done....

or sprocker which solenoid have you got??

Didn't work then eh?

Do you think the plugs are wet from flooding amb :dunno

My spare is the standard oem solenoid but it works fine :thumbup I bought a yam one from neil b off here just to be on the safe side :biggrin so i know i have a working back-up if it packs in :thumbup

Let me know if your ordering one or you want to try mine :thumbup

im thinking plugs are wet...

where is the easiest access to the plugs?

From experiences encountered when my battery died a few weeks ago, the plugs will be soaked if it doesn't start on the second bash of the button.

I would wait until you get your new solenoid and once you've fitted it, pull the plugs and clean them up.

PS. If you remove the airbox it's a piece of cake doing the plugs, but they can be removed with the airbox in situ.

Make sure you don't have any crap in the plug wells, as soon as you pull the plug the crap drops in to the cylinder.

Yamaha starter relay (part # 4KD-81-940-00) yeah thats the right part number. Expensive from there though! think mine was under 20 quid.

try these guys http://www.granbymotors.co.uk/ i don't work there or anything lol just have a decent parts service. You may have a yamaha parts place nearer to you though.

they have never had one of those parts in :( and want to charge me £33 :jack

Sounds like what was happening to my old millie when i owned it. I couldn't start it for ****! I changed various parts and in the end it was the fuel pump connector. If you take the right hand panel off just under the seat( panel with mesh in it) there will be a white block connector, inspect these for rust as mine was a rusty as fook! Make sure you pull them apart to inspect as mine looked fine until i pulled them apart and they had rotted away. Then all i did was cut the plugs off and connected back together with bullet connectors. Hey presto startd first time. May not be whats wrong with yours but worth checking anyway as i was told be an aprilia mechanic this was a common fault.

well after a convo with a very helpful soul :thumbup thanks mate.

going to go home tonight and get the air filter apart and give a dash of WD40 to give the combustion that little bit more spark :D

along with that check spark plugs are all fine and sparky :)

will let you all know...

Ok good news guys got home tonight and managed to get some easy start, first port of call was to earth the plugs and check that they were sparking.....yup all good and strong :D

after a lengthy talk to fusebox (the fooking genius) i say lengthy because half the time we talked about obsessions with fire :laugh but he recommended take air box apart and get some easy start onto her 'wisp' as he put it perfetly describing what to do :D

then it was time.................

............................

started her up..............

couple of seconds later she kicked in with that gorgeous thump and roar..........

........

........

.......

then died :( didnt want to over do it with easy start i have left her on charge as optimate displayed charge on weak....(think it had not been charging her after nearly draining her for a few days) so my question is what now :(

griff :laugh help :(

It has to be a fuelling issue, if it fired up with easy start then you have confirmed that the ignition system is OK.

Not much help at the moment I know, I'm thinking though!!

Now you have the airbox off can you see fuel being injected when you crank the engine over?

Can you smell fuel??

ring me in the morning mate, next step

we know the ignition side is working alrite and we know that its sparkin so no worries!

that whittles it down to duff plugs (doubt it all four in one go......hmm dont think so!) or for some reason the injectors arent being triggered/working!
block connectors on the throttle bodies or the dodgy connector on the ecu??

Have a nose and let me know!
cheers
