Battery seems okay, reading 12.86volts, and bike starts ok, when wind up to 4000 revs, no change on the voltage reading, so must be charging fault, but not sure if its the altenator/stator or rectifier but not sure how to check which one it is :confused

Checked the wiring and connector plugs and all intact and nothing melted :thumbup

Anyone got a spare rectifier so I can eliminate that, before having to strip the altenator/stator :dunno

Did you check it with a Volt meter or the Dash

Check the earth wires as this can have an effect on the charging, some peeps put an extra earth lead on

Hi all,

Just to keep ya posted, all back together and running fine at 14v charging at tick over :doug

Out this morning for test run :devious:biggrin:thumbup

So..What was the fault, then if I have a similar problem I'll know where to start..

Fault was the bike wasn't charging the battery, so it was using the juice left in the battery to get me to my destination, but once I'd stopped it wouldn't start again :jack

Had to do some checking, but was helped by rs3mille and fusebox to get it sorted, cheers guys :thumbup

Had to replace the stator plate which houses the windings/coils that were fooked :rant Had a lot of heart ache and pissing about but got the parts cheap from Time Machine Bikes :biggrin off ebay to sort it, would have cost the earth at Aprilia :confused :lol:lol:lol

All done and dusted now, and test rode it this morning with no drama's at all. Was pushed for time on way home so flew up the A12 for quickness, and some chimpon came flying up on the inside of me :dunno Only to find out it was MSmilleR :lol:lol:lol Sorry I couldn't stop Carl as was low on fuel mate, should've stuck around though as went surfing :doug after I filled up :thumbup

Laters guys :thumbup

Touch wood, in 18 months nothing has broken, gone wrong with mine. I do keep it on an optimate, and am careful with the starting procedure (Sprag clutch) but am still paranoid over Italian electrics. (Used to work in textiles and most of the pressing equipment was Italian, the wiring used to corrode after only 6 months of use, and the outer casing used to fall off the wiring, even the copper underneath was green with corrosion)
