I know this is probably something that has been covered a number of times and for that I apologise but here goes:

I recently bought a 2001 millie track bike which has a 2003 engine fitted. The bike started fine when I went to pick it up and it has been started since but last weekend it wouldn't start. I turned it over and the grinding noise that came from the alternator side was horrible. My thoughts are that this is down to the sprag clutch not working but I also noticed when I tried pushing the bike, in gear, with the clutch in, there was a lot of drag, as if the clutch wasn't engaging properly. Any thoughts?

Hi mate.

Sounds like the sprag bearings are gone. I have just done mine. Sounds like a bag of hammers when you try to start in and doesn't kick over. Probally a good idea not to keep trying to start the bike cause you will be doing more damage.

Its not rocket science to do it yourself but is a fair bit of hassle. There is a good thread if you want to do it yourself:

How to replace your sprag clutch.

Hi guy after abit of advise on shock linkage bearings, found some on marksmen website but they are listed as 06 to 09 are their any diffence between the 01 bearings?

rsvtone...I have a proper flywheel removal bolt if you need to borrow..i can also talk you through the job...very easy job to do if done right...

I hope you wont mind if I borow this theme just a bit :)

My mile 03 wont start eather... I had some racing fairings on, so I've change that to original, also I've changed back rear subframe, so back of the bike was complety disassamblied + fuel tank was taken of. Now the bike started for a few seconds and stops. It wont start again. I've waited for few minutes and try again, again the same, stared and stops after few seconds. No stange noise, no funny engine runing, just stops. No EFI error on the dash. There is enogh fuel. All conectors looks good. Fuel pump starts normaly and sounds normal. I'm looking for any mistakes where I was was messing with the bike, so rear end + fuel tank. Or could it be something else, what am I missing?

Any thoughts?

Spider

might be the tilt switch - it cuts the bike out if not mounted securely.

Its that rattly square electrical box to right of battery under the seat

I took a quick look this morning and I found it. It is very nicely written UPPER, stupid me turn it wrong :) I'll try to start it when I come back from work, I hope thats it

I just had exactly the same problem after I put a new battery in my 02 bike. I spent ages trying to get it going today and even bought a new set of jumps leads because I flattened the new battery before I checked on this thread. Turned the switch up the right way and it started first time. Ideal thanks - this site is great.

I just had this mental vision of loads of mille owners accidentally putting the tilt switch in upside down then a few weeks later sadly selling their milles as non-runners :thumbup.
