I've been there many times, a good excuse to visit my brother + sister, in Manitou and Colorado Springs, respectively. Nephew works for the city, so a bit of an "in" helps, too. Camping overnight with the hooligans and party animals was weird- beer at 12,000 feet (around Devil's Playground) does the trick in short order.
Fun race, massive historical relevance (2nd oldest in US, after Indy) just WAY TOO DAMN BAD it's not promoted and financed better.
Back in the days when all the international rally cars showed up was an amazing show; then the dual-axle Volvo and Caterpiller-engined tractor-trailer rigs belching black diesel exhaust was a real giggle.
