Yeah, Bandito is bang on the button.
You cannot drill the bolt as the grease won't actually get to the bearings, and you can't drill the dogbone as there is insufficient 'meat' between the bearing pairs to to get a nipple in there without comprimising the integrity.
Best soloution would be to cnc a new dogbone out of billet, and add more 'meat' to the underside to allow for the insetion of a nipple (you can't actually add more 'meat' or thickness to the upper surface because it will snag and restrict full suspension movement)
Not too keen on the Soopy replacement linkage tbh. Looks like it has rose joints...deffo not good if that's the case.

Right then....who's got a cnc in their shed ? :)

Espaceman3 - this doesn't address aforementioned swingarm suspension lug needle roller bearings ![/QUOTE

No I realise that , but as the mechy will be working in that area , I'll get him to give everything a once over.

Rose joints ? You'll have to explain to someone who isn't very technical what that means eaxactly lol

Tifa likely means you're going to have the same problems with this set up as the standard dog bone, long term, and the fact the aftermarket dogbone with have lateral torsion issues (I imagine)

Better to comapre together! Add grease to parts numbered 3,5,6,10, 11 etc!!

I may be wrong, but it does not appear to have proper bearings....the oe set up runs 6 bearings....each with 31 rollers. Although it has it's limitations, it is well engineered and precise...

just need to add greace and check condition now and then, im going to clean out the greace (what little there is) on my new dog bone and replace it with good old MOD underwater greace, the stuff we use outboard on nuclear subs. it wont wash away thats for sure

How many people has this happened to ? If there are enough people , I'm willing to write a letter to Aprillia about this (unless someone has already tried this and I'm on a hiding to nothing )This is a major serious safety issue .Is this a Gen2 issue or does it happen to Gen1s also ?

lol....could be useful if I crash into the local canal...:lol

As far as writing....save your time, I've lost count of the times I've written, emailed & phoned Piaggio....their aftersales service is appalling.
They settle their warranty claims begrudgingly...and once you are out of warranty, you've got to have a pretty good dealer to fight your cause....otherwise forget it.

What has been their response to your letters ?

nasty! something i've yet to check on mine.. and it's been through a few hard winters with the previous owner.. i do generally check all my linkages etc.. when it comes to the time where i lay my bikes up for winter, my r1 got all the rear linkage bearings replaced last year and i didn't have the millono then =\

What has been their response to your letters ?

My letters were about the fogging clock issues, and the 'dead' rear brake....basically, they couldn't give a toss.
Unkept promises, no response, incorrect information, stonewalling, silence etc and general disinterest.
I even had the documentation to prove that I had the 'enjoy me' (that's a ******* laugh) extended warranty...and even though I sent them copies they still chose to ignore it.
I threatened legal action, they ignored it, they probs realised it would cost me more than the bike is worth to bring a successful case against them.
In the end, and after 18 months of going around in circles, chasing my own arse, and wasting my own time, I thought **** it...I'm getting nowhere....write it off to experience and move on....life is too short to spend it arguing with Itallian tossers who have no inclination or intention to help.

As I've said many times, I love my Tuono....but I will never give another penny to Piaggio if I can avoid it.

the piaggio group are a bunch of clowns who don't give two ***** about customer satisfaction.. i know of several people that have owned moto guzzi's bought new that **** themselves and are still to hear anything conclusive from piaggio... seriously a waste of time. And it's such a shame as aprilia has so much more potential as a brand if it was properly implemented, there would be far more of their bikes on the road over here. but unfortunately all anyone hears about are the horror stories which put them off.. not to mention the parts and dealer network is a bloody joke, waiting around for minimum orders to be fulfilled before you can get your parts etc.. i waited 3 months for a set of 4 caliper bolts and 2 electrical covers.. something seriously not right there.. any other dealer would have your parts there same or next week... why you may ask? because they have companies that are in charge of part distribution and storage within the uk.. of which as far as im aware aprilia does not on account of the fact that there aren't enough aprilia's on the road to merit someone even being slightly intrigued in taking it on...

a prime example over here in northern ireland.. the only dealer for aprilia has the smallest premises i've ever see hold a motorcycle showroom.. and i know of atleast one individual that was going to purchase an rsv4 from said dealer.. now, this same individual asked if it would be possible to take the bike for a test ride before he made his final decision. to which the answer was NO!! as apparently they don't have the insurance to cover people taking test rides on the premiere range of aprilias...

now what did that person go and buy... a honda fireblade instead.. totally and utterly ridiculous

sounds like a job for Watchdogs little terrier DOM!

Hi all,I decided to check the condition of my suspension bearings after reading this thread,HOLY MOTHER OF GOD,the bloody italians are worse than Hinckley when it comes too misplacing the `mythical` pot of bearing grease :thumbdown:crazy.Well my *******s are ****** and well seized in :banghead. What is the best way to drift them out ? Iv`e tried a socket and hammer,my home made bearing puller(threaded bar and washers) but no joy at getting them to move(been soaking them in penetrating fluid over night)

Regards to all

Gloin

Grab a can of air duster (the stuff to blow computers out with). Turn it upside down and blast the snot out of that bearing. Let it sit a couple of minutes, then blast it again. Then try your hammer. ;-)

Doing the reverse (freezing the bearing in the freezer, and heating the hub) works wonders for dropping wheel bearings in. They literally 'drop' in.

No Gloin! You need batter & batter the fookers out! Despite my earlier crap about threaded bars (thats for putting new ones on!) I did metion the sacrifice of a 15 mm socket...bash, Bash BASH!

I wrote a letter of complaint about my Dorsoduro which I bought brand new , clutch springs snapped after 2000 miles ,starter motor failed, reservoirs leaked despite having a mod fitted, crank sensor failed .
I asked for the warranty to be extended by 2 months to compensate for the time the bike was off the road. Didn’t even get a reply ,so rang them and asked what the complaint procedure was and who to address the letter to, person on the phone would not give a name ,so resent letter and after I had sold the bike got a unsigned letter quoting a percentage figure for satisfied customers ???
So thought I would buy a more establish bike as I was told the Tuono was “bullet proof” ummm already replaced the stator something I have never had to do on a motorbike before ,so we will see

i just want to remind you all to grease these bearings i have done mine today and the awkward end near the exhaust was dry and bearings worn flat
i have had the bike serviced twice but it looks like they had not been done ,so do them yourself
