I have just found that my Oil pressure switch is leaking and heard that an automotive part can be used from I think Vauxhall.:dunno

Any ideas lads.

Tim, funny that cause mine started leaking yesterday too.

I think it would be best to stick with the Aprilia part IMO.

After all if we all start buying up Vauxhall bits then how's Aprilia meant to survive the recession!!

You gonna send your YAMAHA solenoid back then and get an Aprilia one then :biggrin

Hmmmm!

I see your point but I have an Aprilia solenoid on mine.

The standard oil pressure switches are not too bad and I haven't heard of many that have issues.

They are only around £8 plus P+P from your local Aprilia dealer, or even better PM or call Griff and see what he has in stock.

Dammit I thought i had you there amb :biggrin

Mine was leaking last week...got a new one and was told you are supposed to put thread lock on it 4 threads down from top.... £9 from aprilia dealers

my old switch was ok but didnt have any thread lock on it so that may have been why it was leaking

I reckon mine is leaking not from the thread but from the tab in the middle, what about yours AL

Yep, mine too. It's dripping from the plastic surrounding the terminal.

Gotta pop down to InMoto in Croydon this week to collect Craigs .40 jet so I'll pick one up then.

thats where mine looked as though it was leaking from....but when i took it out you could see the oil mark from one side of the flange, worth a check....just undo it and look

I try to support my local Aprilia dealer as much as I can but I won't be ripped off by them and they know that.

My carbon fibre dash cover and infill panels are genuine Aprilia carbon fibre. IMO they are not as good as the aftermarket carbon bits I bought off Russ.

Tim, still talking mate just been busy.

Bling indeed!!!

Mine was leaking from the tab in the middle rather than the thread too. It caused the oil pressure light to stay permanently on. There was nothing wrong with the engine afterall, thank god. Picked up a second hand switch from local aprilia dealer for a fiver

Did you lose much oil when you changed the switch??

Or is it a case of unscrew.............. thumb in............reach frantactilly for the socket wrench.........reach frantically for the switch which is just out of reach...........get the loctite which has its cap firmly fixed to it which breaks your teeth..........ask the wife the kids to undo the loctite which ends up as a full blown domestic as she asks what on earth are you doing Tim!!! I could continue lol

Bizarrely, no oil came out at all. I'd just changed the oil and filter so maybe it hadn't fully circulated but not a single drop.

I had a problem with no oil appearing in the sight tube on the oil tank but took the bike out for a good half hour ride and can now see the oil level...nearly at the max line but I did put 4 litres in. Doh!

Careful you dont overfill the oil as it will creep into the Airbox.

3.7 litres is recomended

Do you know the procedure for checking the oil level?

yep, I read the correct method on here but after a ten minute ride I could see no oil in the sight tube after stopping and immediately checking, so I put the other 300 mls from the oil can in. Still no sign of any oil after running it for a couple of mins. Went for a proper run on it last weekend and oil shows on tube now but a bit high. I'll drain some out when I get a chance this week.

Latest problem is clutch slippage but I'll try those checks someone has mentioned in another thread before I take the cover off

I love the bike but there does seem to be a lot of things which can tend to f*** up on these things, but I bought it knowing it had a few probs so I guess it's a good way of getting to know where everything is etc

oh, sorry, it was you that mentioned those checks to do on the clutch. I've adjusted the lever and it's a bit better but does slip a bit in the same way Wardy mentions when I really wind it up.

Also the suspension is set up really hard and it feels like someone has kicked me extremely hard in the *** when I get off.

Which switch/knob/adjuster should I fiddle with first on the shock. It looks like the spring has been shortened by winding those two nuts right down. Where should they be?

How much play have you on the clutch lever??? before the actuating rod in the lever starts to compress the Master cylinder piston?

In the mannual is stock settings that you can put back to original settings.

These are in fact super reliable aslong as you keep the bike on charge and dont forget basic checks.

there seems to be the appropriate amount of play and you can hear the clutch engage late in the travel of the lever.

On closer inspection, there was a drop of fluid coming from the clutch reservoir on the handlebar. It's hard to guage the level in it though, with the diaphragm out it's at minimum, with it in it's at maximum, but I've tightened the lid now.

I'll try putting the shock settings back to standard then and go from there.

arrrr

Has the the diapgram been turned inside out it should in fact not touch the fluid but be about 8mm thick, have a look again and take a photo of it.
If the diaprahm is inside out when the bike is warm the fluid can expand thus engaging the clutch .

The clutch will engage further on the lever travel as its an hydraulic clutch not cable.
