Hi all, first time post so be gentle with me.
I was out for a blast today on my edwards rep, stopped for a brew and noticed fork oil had been pissing from one of the seals, Is this a common prob with the ohlins? the stantion looks perfect and the bike has only just turned 4k.
Regards, Chris. Ayrshire...

I would hesitate to say common but for sure in most article's I read where they compare the two versions (R vs Standard) they do mention the poor seals in the Ohlins forks. :(

Cheers Eaza, Suppose i'd better get the cheque book dusted down then.
If there's anyone out there knows of a suspension boffin in the glasgow/ayrshire area please let me know.

hi m8, ive had the same prob with my 04 rsv factory Ohlins seales. ive heard that its quite a common problem but when i took it in for the seales to be done they said the fork bushes were knackered which was causing play in the forks and subsequently causing the seales to leak. got bushes and seales changed, 140quid all in. if you can get the front of the bike off the ground, check for forward and backward play in the forks.

Cheers, i'll get her up in the air and check that out. Did you have the work done by Aprilia? the price sounds fairly reasonable.

I think I read that in another post, Does anybody know which yamaha application fits the ohlins?

it wasnt done by an aprilia dealer but my local dealer brian grays (yamaha)did it. it worked out quite cheap because i bought the ohlins fork oil and the seales myself, so all i had to pay for was the labour and the bushes

Where did you source the parts, if you don't mind me asking? I heard that there cheaper to buy direct from ohlins rather than aprilia, but i cant find the option to buy direct on the ohlins website..

There is a topic on parts interchangebility(hope I got it :D) on this or AF1 forum, but couldn find it, give search a go, its in there which seals fit the rsv.

i got them from my local tuning centre, PDQ. they specialise in ohlins suspension and dyno set ups. heres the number if you want to give them a call? 01753 730043 i did have the part numbers for the seals and oil somwhere, ill c if i can dig them out.

Give Harris a ring, they are the UK ohlins importers,I think it came to £42 pair of ohlins seals & 1l of road & track ohlins fluid, posted, they are a piece of piss to do,498ml per leg,or check the tech documents for specific air gap to your weight

Just had my Ohlins fork seals done - it's usually the left that goes due to bike being sat on the side stand. I was told the seals go due to a lack of use and to lengthen their life it's good to give the forks a bounce every week or so - if you're not riding that is. On higher mileage bikes it's wise to do head bearings at the same time.
Good luck - be sure to check your brake pads as fork oil may have got on them.

My forks are out at the mo too, top seals have gone!! So getting everything done while they are out, wont b back till tue/ wed,and got a trackday on friday..time to burn some midnight oil..

The Yamaha seals are from an R1 SP. (which has Ohlins Forks) About £21 last time i got some 18 months ago

corkie
Bob Grant @ grant racing(over at knockhill) is probably your nearest ohlins dealer. he quoted me £180 for a full service but as i was getting other stuff done to my track bike he said he'd do it for £150. Still pricey I reckon but depends whats all involved in a 'full service' I suppose.

he also uses non standard seals I believe. If they're easy enough to do i wouldn't mind tackling them myself.
