Hi all, I have been going through the site and have come a cross some great info... Some ACE pictures posted too! I recently decided to change from my gixer 750 on a 51 plate and wanted something cool, stylish and a little different, hense the recent purchase of my 06' RSV1000R, am chuffed with the bike but not my recent experience with Aprilia....I noticed a leaking fork seal when cleaning the bike so decided to check the warrenty etc and found I had 2 months manufactures warrenty left so they took it and said it was covered, sorted...or so I thought, they have since found both forks have cracks in the lower bracket areas and I've been without my bike for 5 weeks today, this is doing my head in as I have trip booked in 10 days and no matter how much whinging, threats and pleas made there's been no advance. The shop have one fork in but are waiting for the other aagghhh!!!.... Still think my bikes ace tho, just gutted I haven't got it in my garage....I hope it's back for the trip or my Bro (gixer thou K5) and Olde Man (VFR800 vtec) are away without me on a trip I organised!!!! Anyway, I'll post some pics when I get the bike back to take some...Laters all, take it easy...RSVR newbie...

Welcome mate, sorry to hear your bad experience but it could be worse you could be paying out for them, chin up its raining anyway. Look forward to the pics.

Hope you get the bike back soon fella. There really shouldn't be a problem with parts supply. Ask your dealer to ring southern cross in Kilburn, they may be able to help you out.

The cracks have been caused by over tightening the axel pinch bolts, it's a common problem on Ohlins front forks usually done when some gimp of a tyre fitter has been let loose on it. They are only 8 lbft or 12Nm and no more !!

Arr mate feel for ya but as they said above the good news is its free and there brand spanking new!! seriously saved some cash there, they could of just done ya seal and sent you on your way only to find out a few months later the cracks have got worse and its out of warranty and you gotta foot the bill

I know its a ball ache waiting buddy but stick in there it will all be worth it once you get it back

Some news...The fork is in France, due to be delivered on Tuesday, so Fingers crossed I'll be away on Friday with new forks on a bike I wouldn't of seen for 6 weeks...

Sorted, Forks didn't turn up as promised so spent 3 hours in the shop getting the guys to try harder, they managed to get some forks delivered couriered down with a delivery time Friday before 09:00. We did plan on leaving around 8, but after an hour or so they were fitted and I was off on my bike. Great weekend had by all who came Friday was wet and windy, Saturday morning was drizzle but then we had glorious sun Sat afternoon and Sunday, nearly 100miles done and smiling for all of them... As mentioned some pics of my bikes..we'll the gixer has just gone, I'm not aloud 2 with a baby on the way... I'll see about adding some pics now, once I've worked out how...

I just put some pic's in an album so if you can find them have a look... I can't see a link to my album but you experts will know what to do)..

My forks also had to be changed due to this problem! Luckly it was all done before I got the bike. Just have to make sure it doesn't happen again!

Glad yer got it all sorted in time for yer ride out :thumbup ...sounds like someone let the apprentice near your bike :rant How did it ride after the replacements mate...smooth & on rails?

very worried now !!! , i take it the haynes manual is refering to the standard forks then ?

Rawly

Bugga is it Rawly?

hope not Aus , had the forks off recently and was doing all the right things (as ya do) and i do recall thinking that it was a high number for such little bolts so stopped short of going to the 22n/m but i did give the them a good tighten up , i will check tonight and hope for the best .
I assume you woukd see the cracks easy enough , you would think the bolts/thread would strip first .

I've done a track day since !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rawly

Rawly, this is what happens when the pinch bolts are over tightened. Hope they are ok, check carefully

The picture above is same as my old ones, I had it on both, but I noticed both fork seals were leaking, the garage reckon the previous owner was rubbish at setting down a wheelie??? I won't criticise I can't do them....

AusRSV.... Felt ace, especially on the roads in dales in North Yorkshire...I did notice that my back brake is rubbish though, will be checking the forum's out here for some info and I meant nearly 1000miles not 100!!
