Hi guys, my 05 factory which i have just bought has a problem in the odometer part of the dash , it seems as when you first switch it on it all lights up but when you look at it it should read all 888888, what i get for the first two are back to front L , now that ive done 3000 kms the odemeter is reading back to front lL187 ive taken it to my dealer who said the lcd on the odmter is faulty not a common fault ,but it does happen. I llive in victoria and bought the bike from queensland and paid xtra for warranty , what the shop up there said is that they want to replace it with a second hand 1 ,:dunno they want me to take it off send it to them so they can swap the chip over to the new second one is this able to be done? As i thought they are a sealed unit , as its only done minimal kms i dont want a second with higher kms on it, any help would be much appreciated .
Thanks

It's easy to remove, just remove the screen and you can get to the upper RHS screw with a cross head screwdriver and then slide the unit out left. Remove all the screws and washers and rubbers before you send it back though. The connector can be a bit fiddly just use a small screwdriver on the tab.
My dash was faulty too, I bought the bike from a trusted mate with a replacement unit already in situ (He had trashed his original in a highside), it is a known fault though. The bloke who sold me the bike knew the correct mileage and wrote that on the sale invoice which then backed up the milage on the first MOT.

My bike was actually 1600 miles out on the replacement odometer (too many miles), so I used a partly knackered replacement unit on the bike (one with a broken case) until the mileage had caught up and then I put the "original" back on which now shows the correct mileage for the bike give or take about 10 miles. Of course if the mileage is out the other way you'll be on to a winner as it will read less from the start.

Just write down the mileage on your current unit before you send it back. You could always try to negociate the replacement without sending the old one off if they know the milage of the one they are sending.

I am almost 100% sure they can't be reprogrammed though, and I wouldn't know about messing with the semiconductors on the PCB, so a replacement complete unit it will probably be.

Not much help I know...........
