Nurburgring....hot and not!!!

Is it me or what?, but whenever I read a write up on the ring, it sounds dangerous as fook. Crashes happen daily, and bikers continually getting wiped out.

Nope not just you Dan, its one of them tracks that expect the odd death and plenty of crashes, would love to go and do it tho, its on my 99 things to do before i die list, but due to its reputation there are 98 things i need to do first :biggrin:biggrin:biggrin

You are right Rich....crashes and deaths happen....the 'Ring' policy is if the individual is pronounced dead at the scene it is a 'Ring' fatality...but as happened not so long ago a guy was airlifted and died in the helicopter...ergo...not a 'Ring' death.

Yes it is dangerous but then so are the roads....intimidating...sure...exciting...yes...adrenalin pumping...definately.

I think if...when..I go again I will be a bit more attacking in my style and hope to ride more flowing track type lines..that way seems to be the best bet...but you still have to keep an eye on your mirrors for Mr Porche Carerra S/Lamborghini/Maserati boring up from behind at warp speed...

Sod that, it aint for me. I am too scared of becoming dead. I think I will stick to paying for track days in old blighty.

it does look excellent, but not sumat id fancy doing either tbh.
if it was just bikes.then fine, but sharing a track with knob head car drivers
dying to overtake a bike at any costs, ill also stick to bike trackdays.
hats off and full respect to all that have the balls to tackle it tho!!!:thumbup

I have been twice now and depending on how you ride on the road, if you take it up 1 notch then you will have a fantastic experience, after my first trip I said that I had been there done that and never felt the urge to go again, it was not intended that I popped in last week but I am glad I did, I have no plans to go back but if I pass then I would do it again, the reputation is worse than the bite IMO, yes peole die, but they do on the fiddle and every other twisty up and dwn the land, if self preservation is your thing, sell your bike.

It ain't an ogre thats for sure but I do have a memory of my first trip, a mate was on a bandit, I talked him into doing a lap, he **** himself and under duress decided to do it, his speedo never passed 70 as he was petrified, when a Diatsu charade passed us I knew I shouldn't have pestered him into it, give us our due though he did spin it and we re over took him

Taking it up a notch is the way to go but with ...I think 147 bends...circuit knowledge is all important...hence my son did a sub 10 minute lap on his SV650 after hundreds of playstation hours. Me..I've done about 2 PS hours and didn't have a clue what was over the next blind crest or around the next bend or coming up fast at the end of the straights...ergo...not fast enough and braking too early......but it is addictive....and nerves inducing...

I just think cars and bikes dont mix, being a biker deffo makes you a much better driver, more considerate and observant, and much faster reactions/hazard awareness.
Thered deffo be a huge reduction in deaths of bikers if there were no cars on the road.
Cars on our roads mostly are slow docile oblivious obstacles to get round,on the ring, they think theyre racing drivers and much more dangerous with the numptys behind the wheel.

Agree Big Un but it is the 'Ring' after all and Im sure if you had the car...carerra...maserati...etc and the cash not to worry too much if you binned it you would want to see how good it performs as much as the guys at the Ring do.....you don't hear much..if anything about bikes getting wiped out by cars...and at least on the Ring you are all going in the same direction...well until some overenthusiastic right foot spins out...:doh

Great story!:thumbup:thumbup:thumbup Your experience will make you a better rider.:doug I can see where it could become addictive.:devious

lol,i say all this, but as you fellas say,if you were out that way, riding past,im sure i could be tempted to test myself against it.
spose i had these thoughts years ago regarding trackdays till i tried em and luv'd em.
