How was ya blast on the Orange...
Mr A, Good to see you are still getting out on orange.
It's the deep rivers that get me, once I hit a big rock, I wobble and my feet don't reach the ground.
It's an early bath and an hour on the river bank getting it going again after that.

Mr F, yes it's going ok at the moment.
I am mid way through a pre winter check.
Swing arm been off, all bearings cleaned out and re packed with grease, including the shocker, spokes tightened.
Wheels re-balanced with thick solder wrapped around the spokes. Wheel bearings cleaned out and re-greased.
Engine service next, oil and filter, valve clearances, cam chain tension.
Rear brake calliper getting ultrasonic cleaned (got one at work) cos it's a bit sticky, new rear disk and pads to go on.
Then clean and re-grease the headstock bearings.
May even check the stator bolts, cos that's what caused the back firing and fire earlier in the year.
It's had new tyres and rear inner tube.
I need to check the vent hoses from the carb are clear and routed up high so it keeps running in deep water.
After all that, a good dousing in ACF, it should be ok till the spring, fingers crossed.
That's what's good about the DRZ, easy to work on and parts are easy to get and cheap as chips.
Yes, there is always someone recording the tricky bits waiting for someone to fall off.

They do get some abuse, most runs are approx 100 miles, I would rather fix it in the garage than in the middle of nowhere.

Next time we go that way, I will let you know in case you are free to tag along at least part of the route.

Im back to the hosp at the begining of dec (knee cap is off centre...).... Wont be out before then at the earliest.. but i will look forward to that...

I need a set of new tyres my suggested tyre is an AC10 but I've read the fronts aren't much cop.
What would you suggest, bearing in mind they need to be street legal.

Some people really like AC10`s, but I have never tried them.
Most people I know use Mitas CO2 on rear - its called a "Stone King" - most people like them, loads of grip in wet / rocks /mud & seem to last OK.
Fronts - Mine had a Maxis on when I got it -seemed OK (took it off when side knobbles started to peel off tyre), but when I replaced it, I got a "Sturge", mainly because others recomended it.
Its OK, but makes the front feel a bit "heavy" on tarmac - probably just the newness of big soft knobles with 15 psi.
Everyone has an opinion about road legal knobblies, I think a lot depends on your bike, 2 stroke or 4 stroke, ability, where you ride it, how you ride it etc.
Its the same as road tyres, some like certain tyres, other dont rate them.

Well, as you started this thread, then dropped out of it, then actaully went out, it sort of drifted off topic.
I did try and keep out of it, but the other mud fuds were in full flight by then.
Get some knobblies and crash bars on that Guzzler and join in the fun, we will help pick it up when you drop it (after we have stopped laffing).

I've only had the metz 6 day extremes on and they were **** from the start,,,,,,,,,,,zero grip on wet grass.
Looks like ac10 or mitas co2 for the rear then, don't know about the front. :dunno
