Hi All,
Im currently scouring the small ads to find a Tuono so should be joining you shortly - and advice would be greatly appreciated - Im hoping to find a circa 08/09 model is there any changes between them over the last 3 years?
I hear the stand is crap and will need changing and fuel economy is circa 100 miles per tank.

Biking history - RD50MX in 1987 big bore kit, micron, S&B air filter, 130 jet - sweet memories!

TZR250 - never could ride it hence it became part of a front bumper on a mondeo
took a break for 10 years
2 x CBR600F - marvelous
1 x Ducati Multistrada (first one - interesting and spent far too much on mods)
1 x Blackbird - awesome (did not learn about not spending too much on mods)
1 x Z1000 (2010) Great bike **** handling

now hopefully a Tuono and hopefully someone has taken the time to do the mods!

I hear the rear shock is not great, this was the reason I got rid of the Z as it wanted to spit me off on not perfect roads?

Apologies for the long post but its been a boring day at work!

Cheers
G

Hi matey welcome , but don`t get like pike, I can`t do with 2 of em

Welcome to the playground. As we are halfway through a VERY snowy and cold winter, the puerile content of this little corner of the Interweb is getting a tad high. Winnow through it (and gawd knows I'm a guilty ****** on that last count) and there are some real pearls worth discovering. I've been quite happy with my standard T for the last 40K kms. I am now looking for a shock as my svelte 20 stone has knackered the auld one. I've also done a little asphalt surfing at the track that needs rectifying. If you don't want to have tae **** wi' it, saddle up on a Factory. Lots of extra goodies included. Take this site wi' a grain ah salt and you'll dae fine laddie.

good advice from the shovel - gman ! iam getting rid of mine to get the factory (as shovel put it - "don't have to have tae **** wi' it" as all the goodiies are already on it) but also cause i like the colour scheme of the newer factory (black/red) nothing more sinister than that matey :yes.
Without wanting to sound like pikeman :rolleyes - not even sure i want to spend the extra to change yet :crazy

Welcome gman and if yer finances permit give serious consideration to the factory version.

Hi gman

Good call on the Tuono, I've had my 09 model for 6 months and love it. Like most on here I've had plenty of Jap bikes, going back to 1982, but I'll be keeping the T for many years.

Stand - yep it's *****. Check out the stands sold by bubseywoo on ebay, I have one and it's a vast improvement. £40 odd.

Rear shock - proper cack. I did about 200 miles on mine and bought a s/h Ohlins off ebay for £280 - much better.

Gearing - drop a tooth on the front sprocket - makes town riding far better, plus the front pops up more easily :)

They all need the standard cans replacing with some that are free-er flowing (and let the V twin music out) with the ECU switched to Map2 (a dealer needs to do this). They then run sweet as.

That's all you NEED to do, then just ride and enjoy!

sound advice guys, my mate picked up an 07 for 3700 and its mint - I will probably wait another 6-8 weeks before fully committing as I need to sort out some issues in the personal life - although the factory option maybe the way forward finances permitting!

dinna listen tae a word Pike Min says...hes a figment o oor collective imaginations. Jist aspire to the Factory if yer kitty will run tae it. If no a good R will dae jist as weel, thir a fanatstic tools an mair fun thin a bag o Ken Dodds tickle sticks.

An as fur learnin lessons about mods, ye will still be daein it wi yer T, its a sort o curse ye cannae shake.

Oh, an welcome tae the clan!

Thanks pikemen, I will give that some serious consideration, I take it it has not got the aftermarket cans and remap?

look like standard cans to me, finally some appreciation :)
i have to say these guys here will know better than me but the other option is a gen1 racing

I kinda missed a thread like this gents. Open, friendly, and informative. Let's keep up the good work shall we? Keep the piss taking to the threads dedicated to it... Like the one with my three girlfriends...

If you can stretch to the £2K extra for the factory it is worth it. If not, then its biggy to plump for a R model. Other than the rear shock there's virtually no performance difference, just more exotica on the factory (forged wheels, ohlins front and back, carbon :thumbup.....gold frame :thumbdown)

It's worth bearing in mind that if you get a bog standard R you'll likely end up spending up a bare minimum of £500 on extras (shock & pipes) so incorporate that when weighing up different bikes. Unless you can get one that's been fettled already
