Hi all
Am afraid to admit I am one of those born again 50 somethings. Take delivery of my 2004 Rev tuono next week, am both excited and a bit scared, have been off two wheels for bout 8 years now. Am def going for a couple of days refresher training. Any thing I need to know about these mega machines

Hi and welcome!

Good choice. I did much the same thing, but came to my 04 Gen 1 via a SV650 SK1, for 2yrs, to reacclimatise! That said, the SK1 was still pretty quick and would clock 130 (apparently!).

Don't worry about the Tuono power. It's there for fun, not fear!! :D Point is, the flat torque curve means the power is easily managed and predictable. Just don't open up hard until you've got accustomed to the bike. But the chassis handles it v-well. You might need a -1 (16) front, +2 (44) rear sprocket upgrade from std, to make bike more manageable at slow spread, assuming that's not already been done!

Look forward to the prerequisite picture, when you get a mo!

Also, make sure your dog-bone bearings aren't bone dry and about to seize! Fairly easy job to regrease them. A bit harder to replace them. But if the dog-bone snaps it's dangerous.

Hope the good weather holds for when you take delivery, as Paul says, great bikes to ride, have a tendency to shake their heads a little at slow speed around town, swapping the sprockets will help,
And watch for the engine break when you roll off the throttle, it will be like second nature in no time, just add the twisties :yes

Will def look into the sprocket mod, to help me get used to the power. Just gonna take things easy for first few trips out, and see what happens. Will post a pic or two when I get my hands on it.

Sprocket mod wont actually affect the power... but will increase rate of acceleration... which is all good :thumbup

But std gearing is a bit high for town and city (although good for high speed track), which means revs will be too low around town in 1st and 2nd. But check sprockets as this is a fairly std mod. If you only use the bike for leisure on fast roads you might be OK with std.

welcome fella enjoy the Tuono and ride safe. Great idea to do a refresher if you think it will help you. Or just get some miles under your belt and build the confidence slowly, ride with experienced mates but make sure you know the route and go at your own pace. You never forget your skills they just become rusty with lack of use. "Its like riding a bike"

Thanks again for warm welcome and words of wisdom. Seems like Wednesday is going to be The day of reckoning , the bike shop are in process of small service, oil, filter, m.o.t etc. Here's hoping that it stays fine we'd eve so I can go out and blow away a few cobwebs.

Well picked it up yesterday pm. Weather was fine, went out for my first little blast for an hour. Bloody hell !!!. Surely this bike must be illegal ? Soooo much torque, almost don't matter if you find yourself in the wrong gear, just wind it on, and she takes it all in her stride. Have booked a days refresher training next Sunday, will post some pics soon.

enjoy your return Ash, I too have just recently returned to biking after 8 years. I bought the V4R 1000, luckily I had the option to put it in a lower power mode for a while, so I could get used to riding again. Its great to be back on a bike:thumbup

Thanks tuono kid, did try and download owners manual on here but only managed to find one in Italian. The bike came without a my manuals of any kind, so I appreciate the help
 
And here's another screenshot of how to select and reset the 2 trips. I'm pretty sure trip to only goes upto 600 miles and then resets
