Hi there,

Names Sam, i`m from Leicester England, and i`m picking up my 2001 RSV-R 19k miles in yellow on Saturday having never even ridden a V-Twin before, but absolutely loving the sound of it!

Currently riding a kawasaki ZX6-R B1h which i`ll be chopping in for the RSV-R, looking forward to it like you won`t believe!

Previous bikes, Bandit 1200 and a bandit 600. I think this is going to be a step up from the 636, i know bhp wise the RSV is similar to my 636 (113hp?) but the torque is a world away, and i`ve heard the Aprilias make power in an addictive lump.

so, what can i expect!? I`m not normally quite so spontaneous, i spend loads of time test riding all kinds of machines, but i saw this one and knew i didnt need to ride it :)

And also, i know i`m boring you now, but what can i expect maintainance wise for a Mille with 19k on the clocks?

Hi Sam and welcome to the site. There's a user on here, CarbonKid, whose bike has 45K on the clock! As far as I know they are a very reliable bike. I'm told by the mechanic at my dealers that the valve clearances won't need adjusting until around 20K so if you look after it, regular oil changes etc, you shouldn't have too many problems.

I fell in love with V-Twins because of the torquey ride they give. I find them much smoother to ride as once in the correct gear for your favourite road you rarely have to change gear and can just use the torque to drive out of the corners and close the throttle to lose speed on the way in! Great fun!!

Thanks guys, appreciate the warm welcome, and i can feel this forum becoming a new home! I sense a real passion for these bikes on here, my Aprilia is gonna get used alot, i can forsee me racking up 10k a year on it.

Getting valve clearances + oil changes + fluids done before pickup which is peace of mind. Bike seems mint from what i can see.

Like i said i`ll post piccies when its home on saturday! In between riding it . . . . :)

I was exactly the same mate, I agreed to buy mine just by seeing a photo of it :inlove must be a YELLOW thing :biggrin welcome to a great site and have fun on Sat :thumbup
 
Welcome Fella, congrats on your new purchase, great choice. Like anything as long as you look after them they are as good as anything else on the road reliability wise. Just keep her hooked up to an optimate as batteries need to be in tip top condition else starting becomes a major issue and sprag clutches will fail. Keep her serviced every 4500 miles and you should have a ball. There's a host of changes you can make to improve the bike from standard all of which are posted on this forum :thumbup

I also have come from the J.I.L.4 plastic gang, jumped on a TLS1000 lurved it (still got it) then rode my bud's 52 plate RSV.... bought it. Ride it EVERY day.

First week in here too, its funky.

Optimate... V important. Bumping these sux!

Oil. Keep an eye on the tank, dry sump remember, these use a bit if you rev them... which I do alot.... mainly in third gear... the noise.... :doug
 
:roostWelcome matey:thumbup. It is very important not to start these bikes with the throttle open. You can feltch the sprag clutch which is best part of £500 to get fixed:eek:. Just use the cold start for when its errr cold! Boat loads of good advice on this forum so be sure to make regular visits:eatcorn Nice bikes those yellow ones. I have one of the slightly faster black ones:biggrin

I was the same as you,bought my first rsv(yellow R model) off ebay without ever havin ridden a v twin,rode it home and have to admit it took a bit of getting used to compared to the inline 4s,that was 3 years ago and I'm now on my second one(06 model)and I can't imagine having anything else,I've found both bikes to be every bit as reliable as Jap bikes if not more so:thumbup
 
Hi Mate from OZ , Black is so much faster :devious, but yellows ok too.
 
Hi Sam,nice choice of bike:ytiller and go easy on it to start with. I got mine without riding it aswell and i'm happy as a pig in **** :thumbup
 
Welcome mate, be the wekend can`t come soon enough. I had to wait nearly 3 weeks to finally get out on mine, and still giggle like a girl when she fires up (the bike not the leader of the opposition:thumbup)

Can some one please define "feltch" to me. I think i did that to a girl when I was a bit younger....:dunno
