Hi i just got a 2007 rsv r as i have had enough of Jap bikes and have always fancied a big Twin. just wondered if anyone had any use full info on these beutiful bikes. i was wondering about changing the front sprocket, what sort of tyre pressure's you recomend and why the hell is the bike so upright when on the side stand???? it is almost verticle and doesn't look very staedy to me. anyway i would appriecate any replys on anything really thanks all Rich xxxxxx.

welcome mate ive got a 2001 mille with a 16 sprocket on the front and 44 on the rear makes it a lot easier around town and it flys out of the corners:biggrin as for the stands they are badly designed,i know on the earlier milles you can put a 2006 fireblade stand on straight swap but im unsure on the later models someone will come up and tell you, enjoy the ape

Get a tooth lower on front. Mine is one lower on front and still is only doing about 4000 rpm at 70mph in top. I possibly may go two teeth higher on the rear aswell. On my gearing it still does 167mph along a autoban quite happily so you still have enough top end to get you in prison.

Im with rad on the gearing 1 down front two up back ,wot a difference, and with that mod you dont have to change the chain length just use the adjusters,as for the tyre pressures it depends on a few things like wot type of riding you are likley to do ,mines are at 30 front 28 rear but i go every where fookin fast as a can riding like its ma last **** ever!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the tips, if I change the set up to less front and more back, is it more wheelie power or top speed???

Defo acceleration (**** speillin)i lost a good 15mph but hey who wants to do 165mph on the road ,depends on wot you do yourself ,what do you want from the bike????

Thanks again for the reply, yeah I need to have a good ride on the bike to see what I wanna do with it really, this is my first twin and don't really know what to expect from it, just getting a few opinions on what you guys recommend.

Hey Rich - welcome ! ... just to clear up the sprocket question, the way i remember it is this ... when you see a motorcross bike they have HUGE rear sprockets like dinner plates and are fast accelerating bikes. SO smaller on the front sprockets and bigger on the rear = faster acceleration (like the crossers). Therefore ... Bigger on the front and smaller on the rear = More top speed.
Im with bryan, i dont wanna do anywhere near 165 mph !!! i'd rather have ridiculous low down grunt / wheelies and lose the top end but its personal choice. I'd say get the suspension set up, get it running real smooth (dyno, chip, etc etc) and just enjoy it :)
happy riding bud

Hi, What top end you looking at with one down on the front and two up on rear? I'm one down on the front at the moment. Need a new rear tyre so thinking of changing rear sprocket whilst the wheel is out. At the moment it will pull over one sixty, but not alot. Always handy to know you can top 155, pesky limited bmw, audi speeds.

Hi m8 two up at the back limits the bike to about 160 with a long run, other mods probably help wi this ive got a k&n filter, powercommander ,mivv x-cones(powercommander mapped to cans)and quickshifter so i don't know how much these will effect the bike compared to yours mate, oh and mines is a 2005 r if that makes any odds tae?????????

I run 16/44, pulls like the clappers, wheelies in the first three gears and still does 150mph......brilliant !

Hi mate I'm new to the twins too and have bought myself a 2005 mille r.
The sprocket mods make sense and these guys on here say it solves all the low rev juddering! However I have been put in touch wit an old aprilia expert who is now trying to set up on his own in my home town. He thinks the low rev judder is a simple tweak with something or other in the engine. I'll keep ya posted after I get my bike back then there will be no need for sprocket changing until like yourself I discover what it is I want from the bike.

I ain't saying you guys are wrong, by any means, it jus a suggestion so don't take offence lol.

None takin m8 ,could you find oot fae yer pal wot he's doing wi the engine might be interesting to find out:thumbup,as for the geearing m8 its purely personal some like life on the back wheel :inloveothers like to use there bike more conservetivley(again pish spellin i think). On a track it should help with lower gearing but i will know the answer to this l8r the day as first trackday since i changed gearing. Will keep yous informed how i get on:thumbup

Hi - Bought my first V-twinafter many Japanese fours, few days ago - got an 04 Mille with standard Aprilia racing pipes, would also like some suggestions on making the bike more rideable around town - the bike has had a clutch modification (but its still feels heavy) - i've been reading about sprocket adjustments - doing 16/44, hope that will make town riding better...any other suggestions - can i adjustment the rear suspension to make the bike an inch lower?

Rear suspension IS lowerable, mate, but I'd ensure you lower the forks by the same amount to keep the handling balance.

I am on OEM gearing and find that 20 - 30mph riding is 2nd gear, below that it's 1st. Just got to be careful / smooth on the throttle, mate. You may wanna verify that with the pipes it's had the eprom upgraded / sorted too, mate, as that should help the fuelling. Whats not "good" about it in town?

The first week I had mine, on recommendation I took it to PDQ (Slough / Watford way) to get it lowered and set the suspension up - WHAT a difference! It was the princely sum of £50. Alternatively, keep an eye out if Griff is anywhere nearish to you on his travels to get him to set it up. I've no experience, but there's many good words on this forum about him ;)

Thanks for the info, i will check the guys out at PDQ, as i need to make the bike about an inch lower, the thing about the bike in town, was the previous owner had the clutch set incorrectly - i've tweeked it and now its awesome, find neutral with ease and generally much more comfortable and confident on it. I will check to see if the eprom has been upgraded - what i plan to do next is the pipes, eprom and airbox - not sure if i just change the air-filter to a pipercross one or if there has to be other mods.
I want personalise the bike to way i want it. Will all the mods increase the HP output?

Likely to change teh hp, yes. Freer breathing = (normally) more go. If you've got teh pipes on already, it SHOULD have teh eprom (as I recommend, mate, do check), but you'll need another one for the air filter / airbox mod. ;)

So, is ok in town now? :)

Hi Leepants - yes, now that the clutch is sorted...its awesome to ride everywhere..i will check the eprom later - what mods would i need to do the airbox mod? is there a kit that i can buy?

TBH, I dont know, mate. A quick looksie about / search should help. ;) IIRC, tis a bit of cutting to open teh airbox. If then a new filter (ie more airflow to the engine), its my logic that the "brain" will need new parameters for the fuel injection, ie new eprom! :) HTH

Funny you mention finding neutral! I find it really hard sometimes and it can be quite embarrassing when you have jus pulled up at a busy bike meet lol
