This is getting more frequent now and its starting to really get to me. Every now and then i am getting a misfire and im worried to give her the beans as its bound to happen and lunge me forward on the bike followed by the reverse. I have also noticed a definate dip in power between approximatly 5000 and 7000 rpm but not all the time.

Mark, check your battery connections are tight and free from any corrosion, check your spark plugs, when were they last changed? Every 6000 miles is a good idea. HT leads can deteriorate with time too. Maybe a faulty one is causing your misfire. Coils have been know to play up too.

I would check / replace these as necessary first and see if things improve.

If you have an older type datatool alarm fitted make sure it's not mounted on the rear subframe as problems have occured with bike's cutting out due to vibrations

Mate, you seriously need to get this looked at by Griff.

It could be a tight valve or something along those lines, best to invest a little time investigating it now rather than spending weeks looking for an engine. :thumbup

I don't suppose you have noticed anything else happen when this misfire happens? (Fuel lamp on, side stand lamp illuminated etc...)

Have you had the plugs out and checked what they look like, are they the correct plugs for the bike?

HTH

Mate my brothers 07 started missing a few weeks back. It was the front cylinder plug lead had broken down where the lead enters the cap.

His bike has only done around 5,000 miles so i was surprised it had gone but when you think that it is at the front exposed to cold then heat then cold then heat and water then heat etc:devious

I doubt it would be a sticking valve as that would not free off and then stick again and for it to happen at the same RPM every time. :dunno Possibly a coil.:dowhat

Let us know what happens dude:eatcorn

Who's griff and how do i contact him. I only bought the bike on the 26/09/09 and have three monthe warranty with it, trouble is they are a KTM dealer and 105 miles away from me. (motorways, yack).

Im going to contact them tommorrow about the misfire and power drop and see what they have to say as dont want to void my warranty.

Here's Griffs web site mate Aprilia Performance

He's an Aprilia guru and there's nothing he can't sort out for you.

Agreed that your first port of call is your retailer, however Griff and myself are the only ones I let work on my bike.

I have spoken to the shop and they said that they prefer to have the bike back as the list is getting longer.

Ohlins fork seal.
dry Ohlins steering damper.
Miss fire.
bogging at 5-7K.

I think they hate me but i just want my bike to be on form.

It sounds like i've bought a nail but the bike is in mint condition and is only on 10,700K with service history and all the standard bits with it.

When it happens, do you completely lose power for a split second, enough to throw you forwards? When that happened to mine, it was the kill switch. The switch is very mechanical (a plastic thingy, a spring and some contacts) and isn't very robust, and I guess the vibrations cause havoc.

I ordered a replacement and bypassed mine until it arrived.

There was me reading through thinking I haven't seen this bike before and was about to ask for him to post some pics up lol

My 2002 Millle is also bogging in the 5-7k range. Not sure where to start. I suppose I'll check all the filters and fuel system/pump and clean as many electrical contacts as I can? Anyway to tell if the problem is the kill switch? Just incase it is... an easy fix.

Which includes, together with pressurized appearance functioning treatment, believe looks, and also products scariness, blend appearance functioning treatment

I hear electrical problems are very common with aprilias. the twitchy power that throws me forward when It cuts out at 5k feels electrical but ill get back with result from fuel cleaning. Also, there's a tick.. tick, tick tick noise that sounds like it comes from the engine when I first start it
