Hi people. I'm looking at buying a mille near me. Problem is I have done a MOT history check on this bike and its fine for few years then suddenly in 2009 it went from 21000 too 45000 in 2010 then in 2011 it was 21000. then in 2012 30000. Its advertised at 32000 now. DO these clocks have a problem that explains this or is there something fishy going on. Each time I ask the guy a question of what work it may need for its next MOT in two months he doesn't answer put drops the price saying its a steal...concerns are waving red flags..

Anyway, thanks in advance..

I'd suggest the reading for the errant MOT was taken in kilometres, the dash resets to kph if the battery's disconnected/low. 45k works out around 28,000 miles. Doesn't explain the 2011 reading though...

Get the chap to MOT it before you buy?

And what is it/what price? You'll soon find out from the guys on here if it's a steal or not

HTH

Well thats it. He won't MOT it. He's offering it to me for £1400. rsv mille, 2000 plate on 32000 miles. In racing yellow no less haha..Crack in headlamp and some wear on paint on tank.

Needs new rear tyre for MOT but apart from that can't get alot else out of him, only that he has a new mountain bike and is under pressure from the wife to get rid of it!.

Can't help thinking it might be better to spend a little more and get a good one. This one has a question mark hanging over the mileage. I did think of the 45000 being in Km but as you said, the 21000 in 2011 throws that out the window.

They did that at my last MOT my bike has around 23k on it but they recorded on the mot it had around 37k which is strange because i cant see at what point during a mot the battery would be disconnected. But my clocks had reset to kmph when he had finished

Anyhow, the clocks do reset at 100km so around 62000 miles, that would mean he had done around 35000miles between 2010 and 2011.... Unlikely but not impossible ...

I'm with Redratbike - if it looks a bit suspect then I'd walk away, especially if he's being a bit slow in giving information or getting it MOT'd.
It's not like these are the world's rarest bikes is it!!!

Pretty arrogant in his Ebay listing, may be kosher but not overly cheap for an early Gen 1 in the worst colour :nana

Few more beer dollars would get you this 01

Yeah he is a bit of a strange one in his answers. I'm going to have a look at it on saturday. I'm a panel beater and paint/custom sprayer by trade so anything structural I should find....any advice from you good lovely people on things to really keep an eye on regarding these bikes.

As for worst colour, I do agree, yellow wouldn't be my first choice nor that suede seat! it would be going in a different paint direction straight away if I got hold of it. We'll see, your advice is sound, any issues and I'll walk and continue to save my beer tokens for a better one.

Looks aight. But the decals arent standard r model on the belly or tail. I dont think..

I would do an hpi check, check past mot's, find out about recent work carried out. As if everything needs going over it can take a while/cost you more cash.. perhaps a local member could help out and view it with you?

They're standard 2001 model decals. IP ones may be add ons.

He's very honest in his description, sounds like corrosion/alloy furring may be prominent given the usage. Not a lot of money for an R though.

Pity it's south Oxon, if a bit closer I'd be happy to take a look. But I might be biased having this one up for sale at the moment Aprilia RSV Mille 2001 Great Condition Haga Body Kit Years MOT 2 Owners From New | eBay :biggrin

Laughing, I can understand that Paul. I've done a HPI check and all clear. Straight past history. Is there something I can look out for to see if its a genuine R...will it be on the log book?

Ohlins front & rear, Oz forged wheels (stamped on the rim), carbon dash cover. Single seat subframe as I can't see any hanger mounts on the LHS, which could be right for an R of that vintage (albeit impractical if you want to carry a pillion, new subframe/hangers needed). Looks kosher to me.

Bought the R today. A beautiful bike. Paid £2000. Think it will look the mutts cleaned up and a fresh coat of paint...
