Hi Guys.
I am about to fit my Akro's 2moro and have the first service done on friday. will the dealer change to map 2, do they normaly charge for this. Also dealer has told me no need to have valve checked on this service as they dont need doing, is this true, any opinions.
thanks guys

Nige

You will need it changing to Map 2 defo. The dealer chargers about ?45 to do it.

As for the valve clearances, no you don't need them doing yet. I think it is due on 12,000 miles. Thats when mine were done anyhow.

Hi.
Its just the first service says that they need it. but dealer says no need and will stamp as he has done it. ok £45 dont sound to bad. will try and get it at same time
thanks

valve clearences!!

Drop the dealer mate they are talkin out of there arse!!!

the valve clearences should be checked no question its the most important service that engine will ever get!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rotax specify this service check definatly!!!

Its true that they rarely need changing , example is that ive not done any this year at all, but could your bike be the one???
You cant hear tight valve clearences can ya!
If you need any reassurance please feel free to give me a call any time but kick the *** in the dealership who told you that !He'sWrong!!!!:jack

this is not just any dealer this is the main aprilia dealer for my area. been doing this a long time and just said dont waste your money. I do agree i could be the one....

Listen to Fusebox, he knows what he's talking about. If your dealer is saying this, insist they are checked and get them to show you the clearances to prove they have been done. A tight valve clearance will eventually cause the valve to break and goodbye engine. Also with your Akra cans fiitted, you will need Map 2 activated by the dealer and also the CO2 levels reset. This is important for correct low speed runnng, again insist this is done correctly

Can someone expalin this to me please. I thought it was done at approx 12,000 miles. But seeing my bike had 14000 when I bought it, I have never had to worry about it?

Sorry don't get it. Does it have to be at the first service to?

Yep valve check at first service at 600 miles, then every 9000 miles on all RSV Mille and RSV Mille R from 1998 to 2003 and RSVR/Factory from 2003.5 to 2005 i think. It then changed to 600 miles and every 12000 miles for 2006 onwards RSVR/Factory.

So I hope mine are OK. LOL

did you not have yours done Dan. i am only going on what the service manager told me. was being honest and losing out on another £200.
cheers

I believe the confusion with the first service valve check came about due to Aprilia ommitting it from some documentation for the Rsv at one point.

It got latched onto that it meant no valve check at first service and even a few aprilia dealer staff were reporting it was the case to members on the Apriliaforum mainly in the Usa. clarity was sought from Aprilia direct as we all began to wonder.

I beleive it was Ed at Af1 in the Usa who got confirmation it was still "a must" do in the service schedule and would void your warranty were you to suffer a failure as a result of not doing it.

Personally i'm not convinced that all dealers are doing it especially ones who offer to "throw" in the first service so worth asking to watch. I did and they were happy to let me do so on both my previous Aprilia's

i am going to confirm with them 2moro to do it, on the other hand could aprilia tell if it had been done or not? i could not.

valvve clearences

please forgive me guys, im really sorry to have to talk like this...

Spoonz is on the money as usual and Legs is the man, Again!

once again sorry to have to talk like this but its absolutly without question the time to introduce myself.

My Name is Griff Woolley, i am the EX technical manager from aprilia uk and now a dealer

I spent a lot of my time sorting out technical issues worldwide with the Aprilia product, a lot of them caused by slack attitudes like this, some times they have the customers best interest at heart ( as it seems this time) but unfortunatly this is misguided. The friends/ drinking buddies at the Rotax company, bombardier, who are the guys who developed this engine nearly over 10 years ago decided that there should be a specific valve seating proceedure at the factory, at it was decided that valve clearences need checking at the first service interval to see if there is any excessive valve seat regression caused by poor fuels these days, (too be honest if there is nothing at the first service the chances are nothing will!!!), if the dealer misses this then there may be a chance that there is something amiss with the top end of the motor.

let me know who they are i will ring them and tell them that they are doing it wrong, if then scoff this i will call my friends back at aprilia im sure they will be intersted to to know about this as i was.......a few dealers got given the push because of it believe me , although they mini dicked twats will tell you that they ditched aprilia!!

The reason i talk like this is because like Legs and spoonz who ive met personally, give a damn about the product, the press Aprilia are given is unfounded and majority of the crap that was written in the press was utter uneducated rubbish or dare i say spin designed to create a reaction, well i know what it was really like, yeah it was tough but it wasnt half as bad as some of the poorer dealers and press wouldlike to make out!!!

Do the valves amigo.....if they give you any sh*t then walk!! i'll do em for you!

Griff

Well said Griff, makes you wonder what that dealer is really doing or not, with their services.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to check what map is selected please?
On my rsv 2001 the ecu wire has been disconnected and it has a remus can on it.
Thanks
MD

If your wire is clipped..then it would be on Map 2 if using the original EPROM
If using an aftermarket EPROM, then the clipped wire is irrelevant.

I think this is getting over the top. the dealer gave me the option of not doing it as in their opinion it did not need doing, if i wanted to have it done then no problem pay the money and they will do it. I would much rather the dealer do this than just take my money and do nothing because i cant tell if it has been done or not, you place a lot of trust in the dealer, he is doing mine 2moro but did not understand why i have changed my mind. still happy to do it though. changing maps over at the same time at no cost so not all bad. thanks for the advice

They shouldn't even give you the option of not having the valve clearance check done. How the hell do they know what the valve clearance are without checking them. As Fusebox has categorically stated, it's a requirement of the first 600 mile service and the mechanical engine damage that can occur due to a tight valve has already been discussed. If they are not doing this then what else are they then missing. It just shows a lack of technical prowess on behalf of the dealer, though you can see why they are doing this due to costs reasons for the customer. For them to then say we'll stamp the book anyway stating that it has been done, well you can draw your own conclusions from that.

Legs is the man!!!
sorry to seem like im ranting but apathy in dealer networks is rife and causes big issues, the losers in the long run are the brand and most importantly of all the customer!
i'll get back in my dog basket now!
