:bangheadWhats going wrong, I have spent two hours today going round and round and round a roundabout trying to get my knee down with no luck. I watched loads of videos on the internet to brush up on the technique and its still not clicking. At some points I just knew that me knee must have been mm's away from the deck, but just no contact. :dunno

Whats going on!!!

any advice from you guys

All the lovely countryside with fun twisty roads.... and you spend the aftenoon lapping a roundabout. :eek If that's what lights your candle then who am I to argue.

Best advice i can give is do a track day.

too much time on your hands. Why do you want to get your knee to touch the ground ?. Is this a manly thing?. Just get on the bike and ride it,enjoy it there are no set ways to have fun.

there's really no advantage to getting your knee down riding on the road,if its somthing you just want to do. just a little practice and you dont even need the bike lent over that far, just be patient youl so no when it make's contact, even the pro's will tell you there's no need for knee scraping while road riding,

oh and as mentioned a track day would be a good idea

Its easier 2 up you have to lean further for a given speed, total waste of time though

From an advanved cornering course

I read the other replies and agree, there's no need for it on the road, however it is kinda cool to feel the drag and here the scrrrrape of plastic on tarmac.

So, here goes. First if you haven't got big long ganggly legs you're not gonna believe how far you need to climb off.

Right hander...left thigh on the seat, get yer arse off....left armpit over fuel filler cap...right toe on edge of peg and force your heel toward the bike, this wiil force you knee out towards the tarmac.... now get your chin near the right mirror/handle bar, relax and hit the round-a-bout again.

Make sure you climb off and not slide/swivle round the bike.

Agree with everything here - and also - you need to stick your knee out way more than you think, I only ever touch a knee on track, and I am hanging off a long way. Another guy quoted somewhere that the riding position is like trying to kiss the mirror - you need to come forward on the bike as you hang off or you risk losing the front.

I stuck this picture on - I didn't actually get a knee down in the pic - but you can see that the knee will touch at about the same time the belly pan etc touches. Be warned lads have rubbed fairings on Aprilia's - I took the top off the rear mounting bolt on my belly pan on this day. Fairing dont grip quite as well as tyres.

rather get me ed down than me knee down :rolleyes

Is that you bats....

Great pic and as you said and can see if yer left thigh had been all the way on to the seat your knee would have been down. Now if we were all blessed with legs like Omen on the AF1 site we'd spend a fortune on sliders....:crazy

So long as it's not Knee down followed by elbow down followed by ed down I'd have to agree...:thumbup

Altogether now-- me knee bones connected to elbow, me elbows connected to me, ,,,, '**** wheres it gone':lol

Track day. Best way.
I only dab my knee when losing my mates on their GIxxer thous, ZX10s and CBRs when we're out for a hoon. They may be faster in a straight line but any nob (oops) can go fast in a straight line. It takes a manly man to go fast and smooth in the corners!! *thumps his chest a couple of times*

Yeah, decided on a less abusive login over here.

Omen - he can get his knee down from the side stand :lol I was just kissing the apexes with the left slider at Park, but I was also touching down on the bike, and getting a little squirly on the gas out of the corners.

top fun, wouldn't have it any other way.

Most pilots I have come accross (not all I must point out as there are some fast guys out there) who spend more time thinking they are looking good dangling off the seat, with knee out etc, seem on the whole to be more concerned with how they look, rather than anything else, most of them (again not all) never seem to be carrying enough speed for the dramatic stance they adopt, and it is fun riding around the outside of them, without of any of the '**** me I must look like Rossi' etc attitude !!!! Just ride and enjoy, but I agree with the other guys if getting your knee down is important to you then do it on the track not the road.

+1 on the comments that knee down on the road is pointless, but it's damn good fun!

The track is the place to learn, but learn from the vertical down, not the horizontal up!

Try and get some pictures or video of you in action so that you can see just how far off the mark you are.

Heres a pic from a while back on a trackday at Rockingham, hopefully you'll see how much you need to have your bum off the seat.

If you like showing off get some titanium toe sliders and ride like a penguin :lol
