Having ridden the V4, if I have the money 'spare', I will buy one ... yes it's different to the V2, completely, but it's damned good fun ... and that engine sounds awesome with an Akra thrown on

Dave, I know what you`re saying mate, but TBH we`ve not had it too bad over the years when you consider that back in 1997, a mate of mine was looking to buy a Kawasaki ZX7R (brand new) for £9200, UK spec, when we suddenly discovered that imports were coming into the country (okay, with KMH speedos, and needing a headlight conversion) for only £6800. It was a no-brainer of course, and he bought the import instead !

So for Aprilia to be charging only 2k more, a full 6 years later, for a bit of Italian exotica, wasn`t really too bad IMHO ?

In fact, when you weigh it up, we don`t do too badly at all compared to cars, for instance, as pretty much everything car-wise is probably double now what it was 15 years ago, whereas the recent price-hikes, in say Yamaha`s R1 for instance, at over 13k, are the first proper increases we`ve seen in a long long time.

Don`t get me wrong, over 13k for an R1 is bloody stupid, but if they try to push the UK prices again, like they did back in `97, then the doors will open again for imports to come back, so they have to keep us reasonably sweet really..........

Agreed mate but it does show that the 2008 factory with pretty much identical spec ( suspension and carbon etc ) was better value for money !!

I went to my dealer friend in Abingdon and he will sell a brand new import rsv4, that's the absolute top of the line converted to mph and the headlight done for 13k, considering the list price on a UK model is over 17k, I think I'll have the import!

thats a good deal, what will he do the v4 Tuono for ?

aprilia really were taking the piss in 2003 asking £11425 !
suprised they sold any..
Yeah, but I can remember when a std 916 Ducati was nearly £13k!Every year of its life it got a bit cheaper. In 1999,I bought a new 996 for £11,750,the next year they fitted better brakes and lighter wheels,....and then knocked £500 off the list price! That was taking the piss!

Just rang him, he said when he can get them in they'll be around £9500-£10,000 for the Tuono aprc, any colour you want. I'll let you know soon as they are available.

That sounded ruder than it should of been.
Fair play mate, lovely lovely bike you've just got.
Jealous much???

Ooooooh yeah.

V2 or V4 maks nae difference ti me. Having riden mi 3 current bikes ti pretty much my level o need and skill, I dinna think the newest funciest bike would mak much o a difference. I'm jist being truthful really. I'm nae saying thit I couldna ging faster roon a corner, I probably could, but I jist hiv mair ti lose if I tak a tumble so I ca canny noo.
I think if yithers were truthful they wid probably say the same.....then again maybe nae:)

Well in TT. Some things you just gotta have whether they make sense or not :thumbup

Completely agree that the V2 is more than enough power/handling etc for me, but this is a one-off chance for me to get a new toy, and I just can't resist ... it makes no commercial or practical or even common sense whatsoever, apart from "shiney new toy, got to have it " syndrome :)

Nice one TT, give us a shout when you have it and we'll hook up for a ride and to chew the fat over a fry-up :thumbup

Nice one dude, life`s for living etc.....and if you can get your hands on one, it`s gotta be done !!

I know I started this thread, and as a v2 owner I'm chuffed PB like it......but a word of caution.

Let's not forget the excellent PB mag has an agenda around "owning and modifying" great bikes. Every month, half the mag is given over to guys in sheds 'tweaking' their 2006 bike to make it a 2011 bike beater. Whenever they do a new bike group test they always take along a random second hand bike that invariably wins, or comes a creditable second place.

PB majors on value for money, which is a battle the v2 will always win over the v4.

18 months ago BIKE mag did a write up on the RSV1000 v the RSV4 in which they said the V4 won by a country mile.

I'm not trying to rain on my own parade.....just admitting that much as I love my v2, I'd chop it in tomorrow if I could afford a v4.

I think that's the thing. There's nothing wrong with having a new bike, that's why we work so we can have "big boys toys". I just think sometimes we tend to get hung up on a few BHP here and there, or a new shock etc. I think the bottom line is...in general we will not out perform these new bikes, or indeed any of the Tuono family. Now I say in general, because I'm sure there will be several gadgies on here that have found the limits of their bikes and I wish I had their skill and bollocks but to honest I don't. However, I do like a nice bike and I do like to have "special" bits on it etc. I was close to buying a V4 when I bought the Factory, but in my opinion - for what it's worth - the factory looked better, and had all the power I need etc. If I was loaded I might buy a v4 just to have.

Will most certainly do that Giles, I can do fry-ups again at the moment too, so that will be good

I agree with just about all of this, I certainly don't have the skill and bollocks to find the limit of the twin, let alone anything else out there right now, and I also am struggling with the concept of not having all of the bling that my Factory does, and am already looking at carbon bits to go with the Akra pipe going on it from new. I love the Ohlins on the Twin, and if it existed, would've bought the Factory V4 in preference for all of those same reasons. But what the heck, I think I deserve the toy :)
