and its called ignition timing, back to basics!

oi carlwhy do think i don't answer tech questions anymore i know you are a time served mechanic with vw mate but hey ho everybody knows best don't they:lol:lol keep out of it mate i do now just watch and enjoy and laugh:thumbupits all good:biggrin

Heres something off Wikipedia thats interesting -
A CDI system has a short charging time, a fast voltage rise (between 3 ~ 10 kV/μs) compared to typical inductive systems (300 ~ 500 V/μs) and a short spark duration limited to about 50-80 µs. The fast voltage rise makes CDI systems insensitive to shunt resistance, but the limited spark duration can for some applications be too short to provide reliable ignition. The insensitivity to shunt resistance and the ability to fire multiple sparks can provide improved cold starting ability.

Interesting mate!

I found this.

Due to the properties of Iridium, the spark plugs centre electrode can be made with a much smaller diameter than with platinum, Gold or gold palladium and copper/nickel types without sacrificing service life. The spark plugs potential difference is more concentrated at the tiny Iridium tip and hence less 'spark jump' voltage is required - this can be as much as 5,000 volts less than with standard plug types. Ignition is improved and less strain is placed on the ignition system. Benefits of improved ignition/combustion include better fuel economy, increased power/acceleration and especially better throttle response.

At the end of the day mate we are all here to help each other, isnt that what forums are about, discussion? If someone knows better than someone else or knows there wrong in what their saying then they should say so and not take the piss dont you think?

:lol:lol yeah i'm sure you'll notice the difference its like adding a turbo from what i'm reading:thumbup

U got them on your bike?

I had them on my last bike and never replaced them once over 16000 miles then i sold the bike.

Your telling me they aint good plugs?

Read up on the material their made from then you might realise why they are so much more efficent.

understand where you are coming from mate was on this forum from the start like a little banter myself as it makes me smile at home . there are alot of people on here who i know are quality mechanics and if something is said people go straight on the defensive !then turns into i know better than you / no you dont etc etc etc. then the write ups of google come into play and it goes on and on trying to prove each other wrong:dunno
like the irridium plug sager?????? they actually last longer than the standard plugs are more efficient but will you notice the difference i think not all in your head for me thats only my opinion usual carpark chat isn't it though "ive got irridium plugs"zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I couldn't agree more. If someone knows better, they should make their point across in a polite way. Anyway, different people have different senses of humor I guess :dunno

that was a **** reply though kev you hijacker

FFS. If i wasnt getting a decent spark with a decent set of new standard (less expensive) plugs id look elsewhere for the problem.
It really cant make that much difference with modern efficient ignition systems.

Iridium plugs will change youre life - Aye right, ill take my chances you can keep the fookers.

mate stick with standard trust me only noticable difference is they last longer:thumbup

Just want to get one thing straight. Im not here to judge or to make out i know better than everyone else. My input into this thread was purely to help the thread creater, he asked for advise. I dont mind being criticised for what i say but like i said earlier we are here to help each other with the knowledge and skills we have gained. I joined this forum to learn and teach people in return.

The more noticable difference is they last up to 3 times longer than standard plugs, however they are more effective due to the material their made from and being a twin you want the best measures in place for starting the buggers. What ever you feel comfy with guys at end of day :thumbup
