My immobiliser has started playing up as per others on this forum, i.e. engine sometimes won't start, sometimes won't stop, FI relay clicking when off, etc etc.

I've cut it in half and re-touched the soldering which has made the problem less frequent but it's still there. I've decided to replace the immobiliser.

My question is, if I buy a second hand one is there a way of making it 'virgin'? I know that you can use the blue key to add keys to an immobiliser if you already have one coded key, but can you clear its memory and start again?

I've searched on here and other forums but can't find a definite answer to this.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if you can, but if you need an immobiliser, I have a good one with a coded key.

Cheers Mark

There is no Aprilia way of making an ecu virgin. None of the master keys either red or blue will allow that option only to add keys etc but you need at least 1 working original key. There are third party companies that can do it but I doubt it's cheap and once you include the cost of the used ecu (which may or may not last that long anyway) then it's probably not worth it.

The immobilisor can be bypassed completely if your not fussed about it for insurance etc. But that is not something that will generally be openly discussed on the net without knowing you personally for obvious reasons. Someone like Aprilia Performance will do it for you if you take a v5 along to prove you are the legit owner. It's not hard to do so the charge would be fairly small I would think.

Thanks very much for your helpful reply.

Your comments about bypassing the immobiliser prompted me to download the wiring diagram. I can see that the unit isn't on the CAN system and therefore will be easy to remove. I think I'll do that if it ever stops raining here.

Just removing it from circuit will not bypass it as the ecu looks for signals from it. That would be too simple for a potential thief to do.

Yeah I noticed it's connected to pin B26. In a former life I was an electronics tech in the military so I should be able to figure it out.

Thanks again.

REME, Signals ? Have REME connections myself although I expect there are lots of new IT related roles these days.

it's not rocket science to work it out if you have a bit of electronics knowledge but if your removing it from circuit it gets a bit more complicated.
You can leave it in circuit if you want to fool Mr insurance that the immobilisor is still there and simplify things. As long as the main ecu is happy your good to go.

Keep it under your hat though for obvious reasons.

Well, that was straightforward once I'd done a bit of poking around.

Immobiliser removed permanently, connectors sealed up, fairings back on. I didn't like the idea of modifying the main harness so I ended up making a bypass cable from the knackered immobiliser. No more random clicking and the bike starts and stops as it should. As there is now no parasitic load I have also put on a li-ion battery and it starts really well.

Thanks for the advice Spoonz.

Nice one. :thumbup

Most Gen2 apes seem to suffer the same issue when they get to a certain age.

All bikes and cars with integrated alarms are having trouble with aging electrics. With the mid 2000's bikes having all these problems , I wonder what the mid 2010's bikes will be like ? a ( I am glad I have a 2001 gen1 bike with better electrics)

How can I easily bypass my immobiliser in rsv1000 2004? My mechanic said that I have problem with immobiliser, motor dont start but have all good to do this. Said that know people making bypass but dont know how to do it. Can someone pm me and send some details ? Many thanks in advice
