This is exactly what I mean. Snow isn't a new phenomena in Britain, we get it every year, yet every time it snows you'd think we were being attacked.

There's no mystery. In countries where the average temp is below zero for weeks on end, governments budget a considerable amount to keep transport infrastucture functioning, and individuals have to master the conditions. That's why in many parts of the world snow chains are normal, but in the UK it thaws so quickly they'd just **** the roads up even more, not something bikers would welcome. Plus, the very fact that it does thaw/freeze/thaw means you get very unpredictable conditions, in some ways its a more complex scenario than Canada or wherever because its less predictable.

As with everything else, its all down to money. I'm sure the council/highways agency would be very happy to grit entire regions if the public were prepared to foot the bill. Equally there could be legislation which ensured that cars were better equipped tyre wise when the temp fell below freezing with a revision of the test to include skid pans and so on. The question remains: would people be prepared to pay for all that?

SNOW...all i can say is get out the boards, boot up and go carve some powder while ya can. yeha.
SNOW for me is 4000Kms south, hang out to get there every winter to get out of this god forsaken heat and humidity in Darwin.
Suck it up lads.
I drive a car and yep, i'm a fair dinkum ******..but only when the girl is away :D

You can't blame the government for an individual's inability to drive, and it was individual incidents that bought the south east to a standstill on monday. Just people who are unable to drive according to the conditions. And you can't blame the driving test, either, the test in the UK is one of the hardest in Europe, or so I'm told.

No, every other country manages to cope except for Britain, and in particular the south of england. And I can only put that down to sheer numbers. The roads are so congested that if some clown ends up in a ditch, we all end up suffering. If you want to blame the government for something, the lack of decent roads is it. Personally, I still blame the drivers.
