Have watched my Ohlins guy use their Ohlins shock machine which fills the shock / steering dampers with oil while stopping air being left in the unit & then it regasses the shock with nitrogen all done in a short amount of time ... Personally I would service my own suspension even tho being more than able to .... But good to see others keen to save some money & fix things themselves
 
Well since doing this ive found that my shock is running cooler. An unexpected but good thing though :thumbup
Before this it used to get too hot to hold even after a short run
 
If the nitrogen leaks out the shock overheats rapidly.

I blew my ohlins in spain on tour and the shock would turn into a pogo stick after twenty miles. The estimate you had for repair was very good. An full Ohlins rebuild was £240 including new seals and courier.

worked ok then :thumbup

ive just done the shock on this little 600 gsxr and its bang on now handling wise

old shock oil is **** period so changing it is a must just like fork oil and brake fluid :thumbup

as for nitrogen great if you can be bothered (nearest place to me for filling is 35miles)but air works fine just go 10psi less or 160-70 tops as it will keep pressure below 200 when its very hot.
