Finally got round to installing my kit today and thought I'd write this guide as some have asked how easy/difficult it is. As well as the dipped beam I also replaced the standard side light with an ultra blue one so as to take away the yellow glow from the side light when in normal operation.

Kit used :- H7 6000k 35W from ebay member wonderfulspace (comes with enough kit for 2 lamps so split with a mate to save costs, £38.99 delivered)
cable ties, scissors, Halfords Ultra Blue sidelight (optional £3.99 for 2)

Bike :- 2002 RSV

Time :- 1 Hour (including picture taking)

Sorry if this is teaching some people to suck eggs but wanted to be as precise as possible to help all.

1. Remove the nose cone by unscrewing the 4 screws by the mirrors, the 2 smaller ones on the underside of the cone and above the front mudguard, the 2 screws on the outside of and slightly below the relay/fuse boxes and disconnect the white connector block so the whole unit can be worked on easier.

2. Remove the lower rubber cover and unplug the connector which leaves the lamp showing.
Push down on the pins and lever outwards, remove the pin and then remove the old lamp

3. On the rubber cover draw and cut out a 25mm diameter hole

4. Keeping the lamp still in its case for protection at this stage, take the lamp cables and pass them through the hole (ensuring the lamp is on the inside of the cover) and then squeeze the gromit so that the smaller end passes through the hole. This can then be sealed with a sealant if you wish. I didn't as the lights are not air tight anyway and didn't see the need.

5. Connect the 2 spade connectors of the new wiring loom to the original wiring. I have used black/blue and red/black (photo shows the other way round as picture was taken before testing) if your lamp fails to ignite then swap around.

6. Insert the new lamp ensuring that the lug is seated correctly and reinsert the securing pin.

7. Tuck all of the cables inside the lamp and re-secure the rubber cover

8. Remove the side light white rubber plug by pulling, pull out old lamp and push fit the new one.

9. Reconnect the white connector block and refix the nose cone, reversal of the removal.

10. I have secured the ballast by cable ties to the left hand relay box and passed the cables round the back of the round bar under the clocks. This is just my preference as it keeps the ballast cool and doesn't interfere with the operation of anything. Connect all cables by push fitting and making sure the securing clip catches, plug and play and all will only fit one hole.

Before (well Hi beam actually as I forgot a before picture)

After (it looks a lot bluer than it actually is but still unbelievably brighter)

It was hard to get a true representation of the effect and change in the brightness with a camera (if anything they look worse) but in person it is unreal. I have fitted them to my car as well.

Any questions or if you see something that I have missed then please let me know/ask.

This is intended as a guide only and I accept no responsibility for damage or injury caused while performing this modification.
Kits may vary.
Please check local legislation regarding the fitment of HID lights as a non standard fit.

Very good buddy....................:thumbup:thumbup:thumbup

Now............who wants to split an H4 set up:devious:devious

Thats a right good guide there pomp, gerrit made a sticky or in common mods section. Nice job :thumbup

was that price for the kit or what you each payed

That was for the complete kit, 2 ballasts and 2 burners + £3.99 for 2 side lights from Halfords. £21.49 each for everything, bargain :thumbup
I have seen more expensive kits but there's no need really, the only benefit would be a slimline ballast

Cheers mate, not sure how you do that, do you need to contact someone :dunno

great write up.....seems pretty simple.time to get myself a kit i think
Really simple mate. I say an hour but that was a bit over the top. Was more like 45/50 mins including the photos but put 1 hour to be on the safe side. This is the kit I got
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HID-XENON-CON...CarParts_SM?hash=item53dc19ed12#ht_5933wt_939
I fitted them to my car first (from HID's Direct as I needed the fault cancellers for £60 next day delivery) and I don't know if it's just me but I seem to feel less tired when driving at night, maybe due to the colour difference on the road :dunno and at only £21.50 for the ebay kit when split between two an absolute bargain :thumbup
Plus they only use 35W as opposed to the standard 50W so technically can save fuel and power drain although minimal

Defo, can someone move this to the HOW TO section so its not lost for future reference :thumbup
Not sure how it's done, maybe have to contact Crash or some other administrator.
Hope it helps someone:dunno

Great guide Pompey, have been considering one of these for some time. :thumbup

I'm up for sharing the cost kwackers.

carried out this mod last year after riding with all the kent lot late at night ..the difference is amazing

for that price you cant afford not to do it...makes riding at night so much safer...and faster :biggrin

p.s carry out the diode mod as well this brings on all bulbs when you go to high beam...diode is 25p from screwfix

lol i do as well...what type bulbs are the mains??:dunno

Same H7's as the dip :thumbup My only complaint with how they are at the mo' is that the standard mains when they come as well as the HID dip is that they add small orange puddles to the outer beam pattern.

To be able to switch a pair of High Power 55w HIDS on AS WELL as the 35w Dip would be awesome on some of the unlit B roads we ride round here. My only reservation would be where to mount the extra 2 slim ballasts, I presently have the one cable tied to the alloy fairing cross bar to the left of and underneath the relay block.

Hey Pomp thats a terrific guide.

Really appreciated. :)

Mark

No problems mate, you're welcome

I have also considered this but have the same reservations about where to put the ballasts. Shame that they don't make extra long cables so that the ballasts can go under the seat.
