Hi,
Just been out to tighten my chain ready for a trip to silverstone tomorrow, and found this:
Tightened the slack out, 11 marks both sides.
rotated rear wheel and the chain goes from just right-----slack--------tight.
Am i missing somthing??????

thanks
paul

hi bud i think you will find your front sprocket is worn or hooked and check your chain for stiff links or loose links .its sounds as if there all ****** mate i would change all 3 parts keep it safe mate ive just done my chain and sprockets a few months ago a nice DID gold x-ring
was only £100 pounds i also fitted a scott oiler to keep it in tip-top condition just got new back tyre last week and when i checked my chain it still felt as if it was new and i didnt need to reajust it either it makes your bike much smoother and better to ride ..:biggrin
ps: dont fit a new chain to old sprockets or new sprockets to a old chain its better to renew all mate . good luck bud:thumbup

its called a tight spot and it is caused by uneven wear.

if its 11 out on both sides its FUBAR so replace it before it snaps and wrecks your engine casing.

nothing wrong with replacing sprockets half way through a chains life it will help your chain last longer.

Scotoiler:confused on a millé:confused

Thanks

Hi, seen the Gp boys today, and still can't belive how fast or loud they are, as for the chain just broke it and there are sometight spots and as well as that there is some uneven wear on the rear sprocket.
thanks again

Would you not fit a Scott oiler on a Mille? Whats the reason of you dont mind me asking?

hi bud , the reason for changing chain and sprockes as a set is so they all wear evenly
running a old chain on new sprockets and visa-versa will just give the chain more chance of stapping and killing you at the same time for all it costs for a new set..
as for the scot oiler i bought mine a few years ago for my thunderace and never fitted it i went through 4 chians and sprocket kits in 4 years on my ace so decided to fit it to the mille and guess what !!! ******* great now i dont need to drown my chain with oil every time i go out for a run and thats less oil thrown on to my rear tyre and long runs my chain nice and clean with a little coating of oil on it :doug:doug:doug
as long as its set right and works its staying where it is i love it:thumbup and its only 6 quid for a 1ltr bottle of scot oil and that lasts for ages :thumbup

but you can make your own mind up bud its only my opinion and personal choice:biggrin

+1 on all that he said, i have a scottoiler fitted aswell.

Scottoilers are for old men on Pan's or VFR's :devious

only joking:biggrin

no i prefer to clean lube and check the chain myself

also

if the diaphram goes in the oiler you have an air leak as it runs off the engine (incase you didnt know):thumbup

don't know how the millé would cope with this or if it would be rideable.

don't want to start an arguement each to their own and all that :thumbup

but.

you can fit new sprockets any time you please it will increase the life of the chain and will not make it snap providing the chain is in serviceable condition.

Never heard that one before about inceasing the life of the chain etc.

Been around bikes a long time and been through many chain and sprocket kits but,

How's that work then mate?

worn sprockets reduce chain life simplez:biggrin

don't get me wrong fitting new sprockets to a worn chain will not save you money as the chain will wear the sprockets very quickly and you will be back where you started.

for maximum life span the chain pitch needs to match the the sprocket so that there is even load on each roller.

auto lube?
so how many of those with a scottoiler still take time to clean their chain?

well lubed chains attract dirt, dirt wears sprockets.

Don't know any race teams who would replace one without the other. Just come back from IOM TT and from what I hear, no-one there does this. They change both at the same time.

Each to their own I suppose but at the end of the day, full kits are cheap enough.

All the best mate.:thumbup

yep if it needs replacing replace the lot couldn't agree more.

and if your racing replace it even if it doesn't need replacing :thumbup

hi again guys and true i am a older guy :deviouslol but since my scot oiler was fitted ive not had the need to clean my chain yet:nana:nana:nana:nana just a wee wipe on the sprocket carrier but not the chain im very pleased :biggrinwith it so far and its been on since 15/4/2011 when i fitted my chain and not been adjusted once yet so its a defo for me ..
