Hi

I have a 53reg RSV (gen2) new shape and recently had the Ignition coil replaced by a mechanic friend but now there is oil leaking from where the ignition case is bolted onto the engine... where a an electrical cable enters inside to the ignition.

Where can the oil come from? is it easy to fix myself... ay advise would be much appreciated as i love my biek but the gremlins just keep comng and its costing me loads to sort al the gremlins that have arisen.

change the battery, changed the ignition.... these issues keep cropping up...and now i'm seriously considering part-exing my Aprilia for a KTM 950 or something more reliable and less problematic.

I spend more time fixing than riding at present and i don;t want to be ripped off by sending my bike to APrilia for fixing.

Ignition? There's no oil connected in any way to the ignition... Do you mean the stator by any chance?

IF it IS the stator cover, it's dead easy to trap a small black wire between the cover and the casing when you re-assemble after a stator replacement....this will prevent the cover from seating/sealing correctly. Look at the cover...to the right hand side of it...is the thin black wire free of the casing?

Failing that...it could be because the gasket wasn't replaced or seated correctly....a simple fix if you've got the inclination...cover off...new gasket in, replace oil...good to go.

One more thing....I trust ALL of the screws are back in..and they have all been torqued correctly?

LOL...yeah....KTM's never go wrong do they? ;)

Keep the faith.....the RSVR will speeeet on your steeeeenking KTM.....

yes...the stator was changed...and there s a black wire that goes to the stator...the oil is coming out of there and it runs down the side of the stator cover...where is the oil coming from and can i stop it leaking from there?

Did you remember to put some rtv or similar around the little black rubber bung that those wires come from ?. Dont forget that the oil is under pressure so if its not sealed correctly it'll leak from there.

escuse my ignorance ..what is rtv??
....thanks for your help...i didn't know that there was oil around the stator...learn something new everyday...will have to replace the gasket and re-torque the bolts on the stator cover...cheers

Is there a booklet that states all the issues with the Gen 2 RSV's with the solutions to those issues(gremlins)... so that people can look this up and solve the minor irritations

sorry...one question...is the Oil in the stator different from the engine oilor is it the same oil?
