Hi from down Under,
Guys just fitting a New Chain ( RK 520 GWX-ring )and sprokets (15F &42R). All was going well until I went to join the chain, Its to long. Any Ideas how many links I need. Where is it best to have the axil sitting in the adjustment slot, forward the middle or closer to the back allowing for tensioning offcourse. The new chain has sticky grease on it ,Do i leave it on or take it off. Cheers Steve

took mine to a shop, they fitted my chain and sprockets (adjusted length of chain) and left all the cream/white grease on it. Cost me 50 GBP

ring RK themselves and ask, or the shop where you got it from should have some sort of guide from RK that gives correct chain sizes for different gearing.

remove the grease with some brake cleaner and use a good chain lube. i reccomend wurth chain lube :thumbup

Every chain I've bought has been around 120 links. I just wrap it around the sprockets and cut to suit. Aim to have the axle as far forward as possible. You'll find that 1 link is a large change, so just go for as far forward as practical.

If you haven't got a chain splitter, carefully grind the head of the pins down on the link you want to split at and centre punch them out (which removes the plate on the other side).

I always use a rivit link too. I don't trust a spring clip typemaster link.

I am running 110 links on 16/44T,which is 2 over std. you will probably get away with 108.
Leave that chain grease on until you go for a ride or two..then you can wipe down the outer plates.
The RK comes with 120 links...so if you do as Steve says above, this will show you where to break the chain. You will need to grind the pins..measure the chain width with vernier, so when you press the new joining link side plate on you can set it at the same width before riveting the pins to secure.

Guys thanks for all the info , got it sorted, I was stuck their for a while. Put the tension adj. at minimal , cut the chain with chain breaker tool allowing for joining link, chain tight as possible and allowing for slack is about a third in the adj. slot. Riverted the pins and all is well. Took it for a test ride late last night and I'm a happy Lad. Really appreciated it Lads. Cheers Steve

Xclnt news ol mate..your away! :thumbup
