ok easy things first. In neutral and kill switch not in ?? you wouldn't be the first pal

I had the same problem two weeks ago,it was a loose negative lead on the battery,it felt tight, but I took it off ,then put it back on,right as rain now.

u have voltage on battery but as soon as u push starter goes to zero vaults ????? checked earthing appears cool all fuses seem cool proper guzzumped

Sounds like a knacked Batt if it drops to 0 under load. Even a short wouldn't pull it down that much.

Probably got a duff cell.

check solenoid leads havent worked loose and causing a high resistance happened to me last year exactly the same symtoms

i got stuck sunday night with exactly that problem. the starter solenoid wire will be loose connection on the solenoid. (round black thing just behind battery with 2 fat cables coming off it held on by 10mm nuts.) easy fix, unless your solenoid isnt a higher rated one and it may have been spiked by this and now fooked to. get a 150 amp solenoid replacement if that has poo'd itself. reckon uve got the loose connection though bruv

If the starter solenoid is goosed and you're proper stuck, i dont see why you couldnt remove 1 fat cable and touch it to the other. this will turn the bike over and hopefully start it. then, re-fasten cable (or tape it up really well) refit seat and ride her home. Oh ive just thought, if you do this it would be best to disconnect the cable that runs to the starter and not the permanently live one from battery !!

what and where is the magical brown connector ?????????????????????????????????

Its the connector for the rectifier circuit ... if its goosed the battery won't charge and bit by bit on a run your electrics will die...left unchecked the rectifier itself will die.
Location depends on your model.....upto 03 it was in the right side tail unit...04 on its just inside the front right fairing...30 minutes once a year checking this can save all sorts of electrical issues.
