Help! - Cleared Odometer Reading by Mistake...

Disconnected my battery to fit a battery charger connector lead and the bike bike clocks reset completely. Know this is normal for most of the manual settings but the main odometer reading reset itself to zero as well! Now have a 2004 RSV Factory with zero miles.... Anybody ever heard of this before? Will the Aprilia dealers be able to re-set it?

Cheers, Lindsay

This is a known "feature" of the 2004 model (do a search for 2004 RSV clocks resetting), this should have been fixed under warrantee (I believe and stand to be corrected).

You cannot get the mileage back, the nvram that contains those settings has been completely erased.

I've not long had mine, and am concerned about this happening to mine if I remove the battery for charging while I go away - Is there any way of checking if the problem has been fixed under warantee before I do this?

There are many dealers that can reset the mileage, and many people online advertising to reset clocks..Don't think you'll have much trouble having them done..My local dealer offered to alter mine during a service, so it can't be a big deal to do.

I think you may have missed the point this bug with the 2004 resets the clocks to 0 miles !!, your odometer will now read 0. so any miles you have put on the bike have been erased.

I dont know of anyway someone can add the miles back on :dunno

From what I could see, the clocks could be set to any mileage the owner wanted, and would then count from there..But I could be wrong..:dunno

Same thing happened to me this year, like someone else has said theres plenty of threads on here about the problem.

Ive looked into getting the clocks altered back to its proper milage to date, ive logged everything. One company quoted me about £70 i think. (good money for a 2 Minute job huh!)

Yes it can be done just the same as modern cars can be altered, all digital.

Remember if you get it done the clcoks will need to come out (so i was told)

cant you put it on a paddock stand and start the bike up, give full throttle in 6th and leave it for 2 or 3 weeks running until the correct mileage reads??

Its not a requirment to record the milage, so why worry.

Agreed if you indend on keeping the bike for a long time but it causes confussion when trying to sell etc.

Not to mention the hassel of having to log/record everything in case it happens again.

Spoke to my local Aprilia Dealer and they can't re-set it. Once it's gone it's gone and it will happen everytime you diconnect the battery. Bottom line is that it's very likely most 2004 RSV's won't have the correct milage.

Last winter i had the battery completely off the bike on several occassions for long periods of time, when reinstalling it the odometer wasnt effected. It is merely something that happens randomly when there is power loss to the chip inside the dash.

I have one of the first new shape rsv's off the production line (made in 2003), all history with the bike shows that the reset that happened to me this year was the first! But Yes! it can happen again. Keep bike on optimate is the best thing to do.

The clocks can be altered by a company in the correct field, Aprilia dealers rarely have such devices in their workshop to my knowledge.

Like i said in a earlier post i have looked into having mine corrected and even had a quote.
