Guys after some of your expert help.

New bike as of August this year and got dealer to fit an alarm immobiliser - Datatool RED. Everything going fine, parked the bike up in November and placed alarm in to "Winter Mode".

I did not fit an optimate.

Went to the bike on Saturday, tried to start and just a whirring noise. Not starting

Removed the battery, placed on an optimate, went back to bike this morning and again just a whirring noise.

Am I right in thinking the immoboliser is still active or is this a fault caused by my lack of reading your previous threads and not fitting optimate straight away.
:banghead

sounds like a fooked battery to me....alarms on bikes tend to do that kinda thing ..
if i buy a bike with an alarm on , i do tend to rip it off .
Try Jump starting it ....i had same problem last week.
i jumped it from a car no probs , i think i have a brown connector fault cause the alternator fails to charge my battery :dunno
mine is permanently on the optimate when not in use :lol

Get a multimeter on the battery and then tell us the figures with bike off, bike ignition on...

Once we get to that... lets see where we are.

ah'm wi you on that wan chris, a normally tak them oot,,,,,,,
way a see it is, ma insurance is aboot 100 a year, the alarm wid save aboot 10percent a year ,,,, noo ahd prob hae tae keep the bike 10 years to recoup the cost, and whaur a live if anyone steal onything, the locals tak them up the hills an shag them,,,,,,, nae crime rate, jobs a guid ane lol

I've had the battery on the optimate and it's reading good and charged. I think it's more to do with that datatool alarm. I had on the last bike and it drained the battery in 2 weeks and I'm sure it locked itself on the immobiliser. I'll tray again at the weekend once I'm of night shift.

You're missing my question.

Optimates are rubbish at telling you an accurate voltage.

Get a multimeter on it.

Guys, I must admit that I am a bit of a ****** when it comes to engines, electrical's etc and generally get my local dealer to do most bits for me. So you can see what you are dealing with. I'm only asking not doing in case I flook things up.

I take it to jump start a bike from a car it is exactly the same as car to car by attaching jump leads and petrol to petrol......... I hope.

I'll get the battery tested this weekend and report back with figures this weekend. I'm just ooot of ma beed

Weeksy, battery on and I was getting a reading of 27, (hope this is correct) and on the bike dropped to 24.

However, I did notice that once alarm was back active the rear offside indicator light came on and then it was just that whirring noise again. Must be that alarm system

27 iguanas ?

27 what mate ?

should really be something between 11 and 14 volts... 27 honestly means nothing to me..

Sorry got it wrong

DC off bike = 12.7
DC on bike = 12.3

Is that any better, I admit I am crap at this sort of stuff.

Body guarding and high speed driving is my speciality.

That's something that only a few of us know and many of you dream. Anyway let's get back to the more important topic of ...... Haemorrhoids.

You're not ex Black Watch by any chance Aldo?

Can't give too much away but here's a wee taster, one of many

Only at 25M. Years ago in one of my local boozers I used to sit with a couple of local characters untill my mates came in. One was a Rear Admirmal in the Royal Navy, The other, who's nose was spread almost from ear to ear would carry a similar letter that kept him from the nick on many occasions. It was signed by Winston Churchill. Eighteen months he was the mans body guard during WW2. You never know who yer talking to when ye sit with the Auld yins. Respect mucker.

I understand that we ex squaddies can tell a tale or two but many times it is out of the comprehension of our civilian way of working and thinking. One of my former mates was taken hostage by rebels in Kampala. The local militia thought he was a mercenary as he had tattoos. On the news in UK it was reported that member of the diplomatic service was taken hostage. That's because we were given low level diplomatic status whilst looking after the Brit ambassador. I think that's enough said on the matter and were on the wrong page for this topic.
