guide to buying a Millie

Just run it though a cool site that wolf showed me. If I put a 15 front on mine (any gen1) with the 42 rear

Steve

That's not the same for all gen 1 bikes mate.

The ratios were originally

2.500
1.750
1.368
1.090
0.956
0.851

and the change for the 2003 model...

2.266
1.631
1.3
1.091
0.96
0.884

This is what I was mentioning earlier about revised gearbox.

I think this comes from the Aprilia blurb from the release of the 2003 range...

The 2003 RSV Mille has been fitted with a new, close ratio gearbox to make the most of the exceptional power from the Aprilia V twin. Compared to the 2002 gearbox, the 2003 unit has a longer first, second and third gear and closer fifth and sixth gears. The result is even more blistering acceleration with sensational pickup coming out of bends on the road or track. The new box allows the engine to respond even more brilliantly in the higher gears, making the bike faster and even more fun to ride.

Rob :)

Read this review:

The 2003 changes were largely cosmetic.

Basically buy an 'R' if you can afford one, they've got the shiny bits and command a lot more second hand.

I'd choose an RSV-R from 2002 or later (this model had bigger inlet valves and four-pad front brakes). Whether you get the 2002 or 2003 is down to which style you prefer - personally I don't like the black frame and I like the 'old school' <=2002 seat hump.

You may be right Steve. My Mille was sold to me with a ready modded stand. It works fine and flips out fine but I've never had a Mille with the standard sidestand.

Rob :)

Don't know if mine has a standard stand or not is it scares the hell out of me! However it has never let me down......

Any got a link to that group test with the 999?

Oh and Rob, yes it specifies different ratios on the 03 model
Cheers ;)

yes gone and done it  going to be a bit different from the vtr that i ride for work .
Have been doing my research on brown connecters and solenoids etc .
funny the storm cooks its R/r and battery along with its self destruct cam chain tensioners And have done the ytx 14 batt upgrade on that to so honda,s have there problems as well.
so yes looking forward to picking it up :thumbup

You'll love it. The V60 has a character all of it's own in any of it's incarnations. And if the airbox mod has been done it makes a truly addictive induction noise.

I, fairly new to RSV ownership too, and have currently got a thread running called "winter mods checklist please", where basically I aim to due all the worthwhile mods over the winter, and Am getting the guys to share their wisdom. Just sort of compiling links and info on all the mods in one place so I can refer to it as I do them. You may find it useful :thumbup

well ive had my 03 for a week and done all the leccy bits ie cleaned all the terminals and replaced the solenoid and fitted a new motobatt battery.

oil filter and sock filters on the trumpets new plugs and changed the clutch fluid .

rear brake got a quick pad clean and it works fine.

fitted brand new C&S supplied by the dealer too and that is standard (im happy with the gearing ) but may go 16 front as 15 front is too extreme a radius for a 525 chain and actually robs power.

checked head race bearings and linkages which were fine and did the disc rivets so there all good .

had 2 ride outs and fooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooking love this bike (ive had 40 and this is one of the best yet) and a better twin than my 05 sp2.

fueling is excellent and the arrow can just scares children and old people lol

few more bits to do and i just ordered some stompgrips for the tank as there a top mod !!

great handling too as the front has been to kais 2 yrs ago and it turns a treat .

this was the renthal fitted when i got it lol
