Ian M8, Badger's are the MPL ones, same as the ones that Spoonz had sorted, the yank ones are solid as in the picture I posted earlier.

Ian, The price they quoted was for 20 sets ie 40 plates at £100 a pair :eek2

Two grand up front.............................no way

Now that does seem rather excessive:puke

I was thinking perhaps alloy plates laser cut & d/burred,would save all the machining but they would have a slightly rougher surface finish around the edges, would that be a problem given where they live underneath?

I hadn't thought about anodising etc, that is also possible of course, but unless they could be sent with a batch of parts it could dramatically increase the cost.

I've been doing some research over on AF1 forum about these and one of the Gurus over there has made some nylon spacers to keep the dogbone centralised and stop the chafing on the side plates. These also have the effect of keeping water & road ***** out of the bearings. This is also something that could be looked into if enough interest ( in fact I may make some for my 2002 anyway)

He also confirmed my suspicion that the holes in the dogbone are bored out of square to the edge, this would have the effect of getting wear patterns on say the lower portion of the L/h side plate and the upper on the R/h plate.
In a ideal world the dogbone should have it's edges minimum skimmed to get them square with the holes axis, then moly filled nylon washers could be accurately fitted either side as locating/sealing washers.

If some of these side plates did happen to get made would there be a market for them at say he same price as the American ones? I'm just thinking aloud here as I have an idea of laser prices going on past experience,it just depends on how they react to a small batch order from effectively a member of the public as opposed to an engineering co.

This is definitely do able, just not sure how much it would cost/how many to think of. If there is a real interest then I may look into it further.

When i installed my AF1 plates, i machined some nylon washers up to remove the side play between the links and dogs etc, and they have done a great job. Well worth doing this small improvement.
Has anyone emailed AF1 about a group buy, as the postage will be split between all of the group then. £30 is good value for the plates, cant see anyone in rip-off britain doing them any cheaper to be honest, and the postage could be less than a fiver each. Just my 2p worth.

tin tin i havent done anything yet about it . would need defo interest from lots before i contact em

£30 ? I thought we were talking £50-£60 + shipping although I admit I haven't bothered checking as it's not really relevent to my 2002.

I found my notes and Cad files for several link designs if anyone wants them. (pm me an addy)

3 designs from original dimensions in case you want the same but in steel etc plus 2 variations.
Drawn in VX CAD/CAM. Included in the downloads are the original VX files, plus IGES and STEP files.

The original oem links are 7075 T6 Ally if anyone wants to use the same.

They are $50 = £31.36 todays rate. I think i paid $20 post, but i got a few other items at the same time as well.

$50 is correct (£31 ish) but if you ship in say 6 sets it can attract the beady eyes of the customs and excise which happened to me, not always but it's a risk you have to take. That can knock the price up by £10 a set. The people I ordered for was happy with this but it's best to know these things before you import them from the states and find that you've quoted a price only to go back to mates and request more dosh when the plates arrive. Because of this I think Ian is the best hope to maybe get the plates made in this country.
