Hi all
Me 04 died this evening o the way home. MO is 'err' on dash with sidestand light permanently on,no neutral light. Fault would clear intermittently, neutral light would appear and bike would fire only to cut out. Got it home, tried bypassing the stand switch, but the dash light stayed on. No neutral light. That's where I am now. Did a run thru the threads but nothing quite fits what I'm lookin at. Or am I missing something. Any pointers welcome. Cheers

update - I see my clutch lever switch isn't working properly, it don't click back like it should when the clutch is released. When I do click it back it don't clear the problem though. Not exactly clear on the role of this switch meself.

hi scoffey

it does sound like the bike might well be losing a FI signal from somewhere...

can you tell me does the bike tickover still at all? or will itr just not rev up above 3-5K?
will the bike still turn over but just not fire??

the fact that the neutral light is going out and ERR is appearing means that there will be a fault code stored in the dash ...maybe you could try and recover a live fault code from the bike whilst its still misbehaving...

let me know!

Hi Griff
I've got no action when I turn the key bar the side-stand light staying on (even when by-passed) No pump prime or any sound. No neutral light. When the fault intermittently cleared, bike would start and cut out after a few seconds. Fault is now permanent.
I see I've got a dodgy clutch-lever switch, which doesn't open/close properly, so this is a suspect. Been on the American cousins site and a dodgy connector gave someone exactly the same MO as I have.

To get the error codes, is it the lap-timer button? Mine is an 04 on model
The sidestand switch, the neutral sensor and the clutch lever switch are all interlinked in the software, obviously but the cousins reckon these don't have specific fault codes though.
I don't think a faulty lever switch would totally immobilise the bike, but I might be wrong. I could try shorting it out, I suppose.
Will have another go this evening.......
cheers

Update - got a maintenance manual - it suggests my symptoms occur when the CAN bus link between the dash and the ECU is foxed. Seems the first thing on switch-on is a code sent from the dash to the ECU. Anyone traced these wires, which connectors, etc...?????

Help! I'm a bloody electronics engineer but I'm at a loss at the mo. went rooting and found these links.(see below) It's all as clear as mud - is the immobiliser on the CAN lines? - dunno, opinion seems divided. The circuit diagrams are crap. All I can hear at the moment is that when I turn the key back off I get a brief, quiet purr from the dash unit. All connectors/wiring look good. Tried switching out stuff to clear the dash at least, but no joy.
The one thing which may be a clue is that when the fault was intermittant on the dash, the bike would still only run for about ten seconds, then cut. I was able to rev it, but it would always die. ANy suggestions on this? the dash might only be a symptom. The lack of an error code is galling.
The links below make for grim enough reading. I suppose I will have to go about changing out parts, if I can get my hands on them here in the ROI
cheers

At my wits end now. It's not the immobiliser, I've had that open and its soldering is good. When I pull the ECU connectors it makes no difference to what I see on the dash - same sidestand light, triangle, no neutral and 'err'. There is no error code given for the condition, when I do the lap switch thing I get EFI and just 'err'
Could it be the dash? Any help anyone really appreciated.

Seem to have this thread mostly to myself, but in the interests of others let me put up a conclusion. The keyswitch was gone faulty on one of its three poles, the one that switched power to the ECO and the immobiliser. The other two poles were fine, which gave a strange mix of working /non/working systems. So there y'go.

warning triangle and sidestand warning light, no other electrics

Hi Scoffey, hope your bike is sorted. Did you replace the ignition switch? I'm having the same problem. Appreciate you posting a conclusion. It's always helpful. Cheers
