I wouldn't go scaremongering too much, stuff happens, nothing is infallible even the best can go wrong,it won't put me off my tuono I love it,perhaps the previous owner was the cause you never know,I personally think over use of the quick shifter can be a cause,my mates GSXR1000 ate its selectors and burnt two gears,I fixed that for him, still cost £650 for the parts two selectors and two dog gears and would be the same as the tuono if you replaced all of it,mind his bike was 7 years old and had covered 18000 miles,I think Aprilla should repair this or supply the parts as good will at least, but as with everything modern it's all very clever but costs a fortune to fix and this applies to any other modern bike car or what ever, hopefully Barty will get sorted out,if not perhaps we can raise a bit towards his bill, just a thought :thumbup
I'm not scaremongering I am being factual.
There is a fault with the hardening process on 3rd and 4th gear on earlier models.
This was identified and rectified by new parts on newer models. There are new part numbers for the affected gears.
If Aprilia didn't have a "couldn't give a ****" attitude towards customer service the brand would probably be much more popular.
My only complaint is the customer service. The Tuono V4 is still by far the best, most fun bike I've ever had even with gearbox problem.
Like you say, **** happens, but Aprilia don't seem to give a ****. In my view they should have identified the power units that were fitted with the original 3rd & 4th gear and recalled them to put it right.
